How does this compare with the current front page D5100 Nikon deal? I just bought that one, but would consider canceling and getting this with the extra lens if it's a better camera....keep in mind I know nothing about cameras, but the wifey wants one. Smilie

This seems like a pretty good deal. I keep putting it off, waiting for another deal, being indecisive. If the deal is still good later tonight or in the morning, I may go for it this time.

I shoot a 16MP D7000 from the $600 ( with 18-140mm lens) Bestbuy deal last year. If I was buying now I'd get the d7100 refurb. The d7100 has faster auto focus / expeed 4 and the ability to crop more due to 24mp. My opinion is its not worth it for me to upgrade to the d7100 from the d7000. Most that have don't regret it, but I'll wait.

With that said, nothing against the d5100's 16mp sensor, but the d3300 is 24mp, has expeed 4, and is a couple generations newer than the d5100. I'm assuming the d3300 will auto focus faster and produce better pics due to the 24mp (enable you to crop more when needed). I'd get the D3300 instead of the D5100 for these reasons.

I had got Canon SL1 2 months back as my first DSLR. Gotten a bit interested in photography. I have observed that SL1 doesn't produce good image quality at night and under low light. there is a lot of digital noise/grain. I am looking to upgrade it to nikon d3300/d5300 (would prefer d5300). Not sure if I should wait more and jump in on this deal.

I bought the D3300 when the deal was going for close to $400 with two lenses. I don't regret that purchase one bit. Make sure to buy the 35mm 1.8 prime lens. My family and friends are amazed at the pictures I --an amateur-- can take with these.

Not a week goes by when there's a D3200, D3300, D5100, etc. deal. I'm waiting for a deal on a new one from an authorized dealer.
I've already passed up several...I wan't to sell off some old cameras first. I take forever. Smilie

The 35mm 1.8 is a gem... I just went through a museum with it and captured tons of art with out using flash... For portraits I recommend the Rokinon 85mm 1.4 AE, my newest addition.. I got one used / mint for $175.. It's a manual lens, but easy to focus. You can set the cam to auto, adjust focus, and snap away, In dim day light I set the aperture to 1.4, iso 100, and shutter to 500... I am amazed by the pictures coming from the Rokinon ...

Ditto. Even regarding the 35mm lens. It's like you were telling my story.

I got the deal with two lenses a couple months ago for $375 (I think), so the price isn't dropping a lot atm. If you're considering this, I'd say buy it now.

I'm a rookie now that it is difficult for me to use it, Composition framing should be strengthened.

would you recommend buying the cheaper version and buying the 35mm lens? where can I buy that lens and how much it cost?

Mine had a shutter count of 569. I wouldn't have cared if it was ten times that. It looks and works like brand new.
