What forum software does SD use?

I was just wondering if SD is still using VBulletin (and if so, what version?) or another program for its forums. TIA.

Found a 2 year old Q&A post on Reddit from the Slickdeals heads

Thanks for the info., BB. I remember they used VB back when I joined the site over a decade ago, but all these modifications/upgrades later, I wasn't sure if SD still was.

Thanks, so it's VB 3.x. I didn't know 4.x and 5.x are seen as downgrades to 3.x. I wonder if others think like that then they haven't addressed it.

Oh yes,VB4 and 5 are major steps down and they are frankly A DISGRACE TO VBULLETIN which is beautiful software!!!!!

One VB4 site I am on THE ADMIN REWROTE EVERYTHING to keep the same look he had with VB3.8.7 and its 99% the same!! (That one I tolerate ONLY BECAUSE it looks 99% the same as it did... IT IS SLOWER but its OK)

Im on IE6 which is why its 99% and not 100% but Hey,im just glad it looks as good as it does!!! -- I was quite surprised when I first saw it!! -- I told the admin I was gonna leave, please dont put VB4 here and he PMed me and said "I know alot about CSS,please give me a chance with it" -- And I wasnt hearing any of it..... The next day I was about to take the site out of my favourites and I just went for a laugh.....

BOY THE LAUGH WAS ON ME!!!!!!!!! -- HE SURE DOES KNOW ABOUT ABOUT CSS!!!

That is a shame. Someone told me that many of VBulletin's original programmers left and created XenForo [xenforo.com]. Are you familiar with that?

Yes, we're still using vbulletin 3 and because of the all the modifications we made, there is no chance we'll be moving to 4 or 5 (I also agree its a downgrade to vb 3) or xenforo. I'm very much aware of macrumors for example making the transition to xenforo, but we're at the point its not worthwhile and really risky. We have been slowly replacing the vb components that hasn't aged as well compared to its modern counterparts such as the post commenting stuff and a lot of the behind the scenes stuff.

Yeah from a product perspective vbulletin 3.6 was great. There is a reason why its used on so many different websites for the longest time. I felt vbulletin lost a lot of the vision of what made their product great when they started branching out of the forum and into gimmicky stuff like social media and blog software.

Certain parts of the codebase is well written, but other parts is a spagetti code nightmare. We have made a lot of improvements in the speed department (you should be able to browse a 25K reply thread with no problem now) and codebase. We'll continue to evolve the software, taking the best parts of vbulletin forward with us as we make more improvements.

Ya Im glad it works so well on IE6 (MyIE2) ya know??

I am very concerned about privacy and stuff so to me using IE6 is very important...... (I know for sure im not being tracked or spied on)

And I like the fact I get alerts that facebook tracking images are attempting to display on this and other sites!! (I CLICK "NO" (Otherwise they could track me AND IM NOT EVEN ON THAT INTRUSIVE SITE AND DONT WANNA BE!!))
