Flippers who are looking to make a couple bucks only need to apply as this is not a slick deal.

Ships late March.

One per customer.

UPDATE:

I guess the March allotment is now gone, as the soonest you can get it is June.

If you have received your Oculus Rift CV1 or a shipping status, please post here so other SDers may get an idea of shipment. Thank you.

Flip?? How so?

Luckey stated that there was "no chance" that Oculus Rift preorders would sell out, stating that the company would "keep on taking preorders for as long as people want EVE: Valkyrie!"

Welcome to version 1.0

Early adopters will help pay for all their R&D and salaries.

Next version will be twice as fast and $100 cheaper.

I expected it to cost more.

I like the idea of VR but to pay $600 to play some tech demos.
Good luck with that.

I read an interview where the est price was $350 and one of the developers it's close but will be higher than that. Holy crap, this is much higher than $350.

I thought Sony's VR set at $400 as a lot.

However, if you were an early-early adopter and backed the kickstarter, they are sending you a production version for free.

Palmer is so full of it. I seriously don't believe they're selling this at cost. Facebook is a mobile company and just said screw it, Hardcore PC isn't our userbase, what interest do I have with them. We promised a product, so we'll deliver it, but it's certainly going to be with profits margins comfortably built in.

Almost 700 with taxes and shipping. Shipping? Really? Throw in at least another 100 for the motion controllers and you're talking 800 dollars. I'll wait to see what Vive is going for. Figured Vive would be 999.99, but I'd rather pay the extra 200 and getting something that's a major upgrade over DK2.

EDIT: For claritysake, I'm saying room scale (with the necessary chaperone) is a major upgrade. 25 percent higher resolution with smeared optics (to hide screen door effect) isn't that big of an upgrade by itself (for ME).

$600.00 is probably more than it is worth, but I am still excited to get my hands on one.

It sounds like they are giving all the kickstarter backers who purchased a development kit a free one, which is pretty awesome in my opinion.
