Cnet's review makes it sound like this router has great range. Hope this expensive router is worth the money.

I just got the email that it's back in stock and made the purchase right away. I currently have the Asus AC66U and the ARRIS SurfBoard SB6183 modem on Time Warner. I have the 10/100 plan and on speedtest.net I get around 11.7 Mbps upload and 118 Mbps download. My AC66U and SB6183 are solid performers. I am hoping the AC88U will be a worthy substitute. This router has 8 ports, not the usual 4.
I would suggest installing Merlin's asuswrt firmware. For a secure connection, use OpenVPN on Merlin's firmware when using unsecured wifi hotspots to ensure safe browsing without having to pay for a service. Also with the USB 3.0 port you can stream movies throughout your home network using a higher bitrate. There are other options you can utilize, just visit smallbuilders forums if you have questions about the router.

Great deal for a router that has just been released Asus is top notch ! One of the best features is that it has 8 Ethernet ports . Cnet calls this the Lexus of routers Features then the more expensive 5300 router that MSRP is $399.

Got one, still had the $100 groupon gift card that needed to be used as well. A few days to late for the amex promo unfortunately, that would have been perfect. We'll see if it lives up to the hype.

Dang, I just need the modem and don't feel like going through the hassle of selling the router and risking the mail -in rebate (moving in a couple of months). hmm...

Needed the modem but didn't need this cutting edge of a router.

Oh well, ordered a combo anyways. Deal seemed too good to pass.

Quick question. Hopefully no one flames me for this. Will this work on my Verizon FIOS connection out of the box or do I have to do something/tweaking?

Ordered, thanks!

I need the modem and for an extra $145 the router is a good deal. I'll probably sell my RT-AC68U for ~$100 and it will be a $45 upgrade.

thanks!

perfect since i was looking to upgrade both my Asus AC66 router and my SB6141 modem (just upgraded to TWC 200mbps).. those will now go to my parents house and be total overkill for them.

I got the asus acrt87u and absolutely love it. Just bought it a month ago, but I'm gonna upgrade to this due to the fact you can sell the modem easily for at least 80 bucks making this 150 and i paid 200 the 87 model. Hopefully I can get rid of the 87 model without taking too much of a hit. And with the gaming feature this makes it a no brainer for me!

you're so lucky to have the 200mbps from time warner...we have the ultimate here and its 50Mbps. With my Asus AC87U I can get up to 63 to 65 download though! I dream of faster internet as its my second home laugh out loud
