My boss has agreed to let me upgrade my laptop and I am super-excited, but I want to make sure I make a good decision. I'll have to use this laptop for at least another year, and I don't want to get stuck with something I hate. Battery power is paramount, and I'd love to have a very HD screen, love the 'edge-to-edge' look that some have. Really love the look of the Surfacebook, but at $1600 its going to be out of my price range. Need to keep it closer to $1000-$1400.

Don't care about the 'flip-over tablet' feature that some have, don't need an optical drive (I assume all ultrabooks are optical-free now?), would love a video card that is better than integrated but not sure that exists or not in this space. Current gen i5 is OK but if it doesn't impact the battery life too much an i7 would be better. HDD space I'd prefer a 512 ssd but I would take a 1 or 2tb 7200 if necessary.

Anyone have any good suggestions? Aware of good deals, even upcoming ones?
