Any idea if this is remotely possible? ---Printing from chromebook to Brother H -2170W

I am willing to pay for an app that would allow this function.

TIA

Thanks 4 your reply

1- no it does not have wifi direct
2- The chromebook cannot see the printer (it is on same network)

Apparently Chrome prefers to connect to printers via the "cloud" So the printer in ? has to be accessible to the cloud.---I just wish I had a workaround.

currently have to upload docs to google and print from a win based PC--PITA

Having a hard time finding that model number, can you double check it?

If you don't have a cloud capable printer (No networking on it or older) you can still do cloud print if you have another computer in the house, you can hook the printer to that PC, and setup cloud print through that PC using Chrome, assuming the PC and Chrome are running. You could also use a Raspberry Pi and Cups but I was never able to get this to work reliably myself, several people online have no issues with it.

So it's possible without a cloud capable printer just not super reliable in my experience. .

if chrome runs all the time you can add it to google cloud print? (another machine?) Like Liquid said. if it goes to sleep, no printer)

does your printer show an ip on the network?

Yes, I can connect to it with 3 windows computers.
The computer which is sharing the printer, is awake.

Just to confirm, are you signed in to Chrome using the same accounts on both the computer sharing the printer and the Chromebook? Otherwise you'll need to share the printer from the account you registered it with to the account you're using on the chromebook.

From the PC that you shared the printer, check https://www.google.com/cloudprint#printers to see the status of cloud printers. Does it show up there, and if so does it show up online?

I used the classic printer setup through a Windows lappy for a few years but finally broke down and purchased a Google ready printer. Printers are so cheap these days that it's probably worth the $50.00 investment.

Well, I guess that tells us that there's a problem either between the google cloud print driver and your printer or the google cloud print driver and the cloud. Unfortunately I don't know too much about the windows software. I use cloud print directly from my printer as well.

Using the link u provided, I was able to locate the manage option.

I re-added the printer, used the create print link (authorized to print)- emailed it to my google account and was able to print from chrome book.

Not sure if this is a stable solution, but it works for me,

thanks for your help!

The easiest thing tho do I'd get the most recent version of that printer which will have Wi-Fi direct the you can print directly to the printer from the chrome book. The old version of the printer you have doesn't get Wi-Fi direct so it needs to be hooked up tho a Windows computer with chrome browser

That is a cheap printer go her the newest version so you can print directly from the chrome book to printer with Wi-Fi direct

Pretty sure Wifi Direct from A Chromebook won't work. You have to use Google's Cloud Print. Now you can do this directly with the printer if the printer supports it or you can do it through a computer (PC, Mac, LInux, etc) that has the printer already configured to it.
