Hotmail slow on Firefox

Novakingwai 2,145 263 January 10, 2016 at 07:30 AM
Ever since Hotmail (Or Outlook) did this new update it has been extremely slow. Sometimes just loading the email page can take 10-20 seconds. Sometimes when I open an email it's blank and I have to go back to the inbox and reopen the email. This doesn't happen on Chrome. I am sure I have the latest flash player and java.

You don't need Flash and definitely not Java (most browsers don't even run java anymore, seriously look at removing it from your pc, most people don't need it) for this. It's an HTML5 page.

I would look at your AV and any plugins you have installed in the browsers.

Yes, never been an issue till Outlook updated itself

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone

It could be the ad blocker itself interacting with the page elements poorly.

If you can replicate it on a completely clean profile (no plugins), file a bug with Mozilla. If you can't replicate it on a clean profile try adding your current set of plugins until you figure out which one is causing the issue and file a bug with the author.

I despise the new Outlook upgrade. They made the UI stupid simple (meaning hard to use by removing useful features), and performance is like a dog.

Junk / spam filtering is utterly broken, and performance is shit.

cheap, fast, good - pick any two.

PSA: Yahoo email is extremely insecure...switch to Gmail if you can!! Hotmail is better but not as good as Gmail.

See if it behaves differently with the adbocker off. You can configure specific sites.

I will do this when I have some time. I think the only addon I'm using is Adblocker. Used to have Stop Script but it caused too many issues.

uBlock Origins is recommended over other adblockers. It's open source and trusted and uses less resources.

I just gave outlook.com a try on my system, and for reading Bing/Microsoft spam it works fine for me on Firefox. This is with Firefox 43.0.4/W10/Adblock Plus enabled. I only have about 50 emails in my Inbox though, so if it's a problem with larger accounts I wouldn't have run into it.

You answered your own problem. If it doesn't happen on Chrome - use that - much faster than Firefox anyways. Or make sure you have latest version of Firefox - and if you do and issue persists, try clearing the cache: *For Firefox: Press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL simultaneously and click Clear Now"
