Best Buy [bestbuy.com] has 500GB Tivo Bolt 4k Ultra HD DVR (White) + $50 Best Buy GC on sale for $285.99.

Shipping is free.

Even if picking up the Bolt in-store, the card still appears to ship. Maybe you'd get the card in-store but I'd rather wait and get my 5% Discover cash back. Smilie

This is $4 cheaper than the last deal: http://slickdeals.net/f/8413061-4k-uhd-tivo-bolt-dvr-500gb-white-50-best-buy-gc-290-free-shipping

As the mod noted in the last deal, the $50 Gift Card is the deal.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

You have two options, the first is using only the normal account interface but includes a ridiculous $24.99 equipment shipping fee. The second requires a little legwork and a chat session but eliminates the shipping and handling charge.

1) Go into your account, click the "TV Equipment" button on the left Look for the "TV Equipment & Service I want to add/return a box or upgrade to Quantum TV and
continue shopping." section and click Go. Adjust the cable card quantity, continue, and Add to cart.

2) Find someplace local to pick up a cable card, then chat with the rep and have them place the order for you. I found someplace that wasn't an official FIOS store close to home here: https://www.verizon.com/support/c...-locations
You have to call these non-corporate stores, usually wireless independent stores, to make sure they have them. Once your order is processed, you'll get a Master Order Number which the store will need to issue you a cablecard. (Calling my local corporate Verizon Wireless store also yielded the names and numbers of wireless resellers that handle limited FIOS equipment.)
Right now, the 4K isn't really an important factor.

For my situation with FIOS, I'd be spending $66 in equipment fees for the single Quantum DVR (6-tuner) and 3 clients ($30 + 3 * $12) vs $5 for the cable card.

So on the Verizon side, I'd save $61/month.

On the Tivo side:

Bolt: $286
3 Minis: 3 x $111 (price matched to Amazon) = $333

Subtotal: $619
NJ Tax: $43.33
GC applied to Mini purchase: -$50
Total: $612 (less 5% Discover Cashback for at least Bolt purchased online)

Break even in first year is at 10 months.

Subsequent years, the TIVO service will cost $150 (+tax?) is $ per year.

So for year 2 and beyond, I'll break even will be $160 / $61 = 2.7 months into the year.

(This all neglects any tax I'd pay on the Verizon equipment rental, too, because I'm not sure what that would be.)

I will probably upgrade the hard drive at some point - a 2TB upgrade is simple and maybe $60? 4tb is more complicated and expensive but I expect that to improve.

And the Tivo Bolt will consolidate Plex, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu Plus, etc. into one device.

I'll know more about how much I actually like using it later today, I think.

Yes, I do. Hang on!

What is the point of a 4K DVR if TV shows are broadcasted in 720p?

Besides 4k, any real advantages to this over Comcast X1 DVR? I already have all the streaming services on every friggin thing connected to the TV, and integrated into the TV itself....

I think that depends on the equipment cost of the X1 system.

For me, this lets me avoid ridiculous Verizon FIOS equipment fees.

do you know how to get advertised FIOS deals without having to buy the ridiculous equipment & fees they seem to be forcing upon us? i have Tivo, FIOS Modem/Router and house is pre-wired for FIOS. all i need is cable card but online there is no option to bypass the DVR box/DVR fee/Router rental etc. over phone they quote a diff rate more than the online deal.

Also, I did this hand have not upgraded from Local TV yet. But since I have Local TV, I can upgrade my service by "building my own bundle" and choosing the 2-year commitment, then choosing my desired TV package.

For example, I get a price of $109.99 for Preferred TV (with my existing phone and 50/50 Internet) as well as 12-months of HBO for free. There is some cloud/security BS that I delete from my cart and I also delete the promotional-but-extra-cost world calling BS. It shows a price of $129.98(9?) for months 13-24 but that presumes I'll keep the HBO at the regular price after the one year.

I tried to get out of paying the $4.99 RSN fee for...moral reasons. I was not successful. :-)

I have a TiVo and my own FiOS G1000 router, and was able to do this at the online deal rates.

When you're placing an online order at the page where you choose the router, there's a link that say's something like "Already have FiOS" router?" Click on that, and a phone number appears (888-389-7299, although it may vary by region) where you can place an order without including a router or settop box. Or you can use the online chat feature.

I tried and also found that I could not just order the cablecard online without a DVR. tried the chat with a rep and just got fed up. ended up calling, ordering the card, canceling the DVR and remote boxes ( still need to be sent back) and got it shipped free. via UPS. I'll have it tomorrow, test it all out and go from there. 3 boxes plus Quantum was costing me $57/mo.+ taxes, now it'll be 4.99 + tax

I was asking out of curiosity. It does seem like something I may be able to use since I have TWC and a 4K TV but I just didn't understand how it would work.
The OP replied and explained the benefits earlier though.

Doesnt this come with one year of free tivo service ? And are all the streaming services available in 4K ? For instance my TV (A vizio M series) cant do youtube 4K natively, does this mean I would be able to do 4k youtube with this box ?

Just got FIOS 3 days ago. Go through the online order and get one cable box and the modem. I went to the local FIOS store and picked up a cable card but you can call them and they'll ship one for free. Hook up your TiVo and then return the rental equipment.
