Looks similar to the Boost Mobile deal that has been posted. Looks like BM has more data on their plan so it is probably a better deal but I just posted this for any VM customers looking to upgrade.

Can this phone be used with Sprint postpaid without unlocking? ----- Someone please answer ----

SDer / eBay unlock service used / Successful or unsuccessful / How long did it take to unlock (Please post here your unlock experience):

Update 1/20/2016 on FAQs
1. Will turning on the phone (before an unlock) lock it to Virgin Mobile in any way? NO!
2. Can I activate the phone on Ring Plus before I unlock it? YES!
3. Is there any issue with unlocking the phone after I activated it on Ring Plus? NO!
4. What is the correct way of unlocking the phone once you receive a message from the ebay seller? There is no incorrect way! You can literally insert a non virgin mobile sim at any state (off, on, in setup, in home screen) of the phone and it will be fine.

EEK!FAQ: IMPORTANT READ BEFORE BUYING!!!!!vomitvomitvomitvomitvomit
TURNING ON THE PHONE WITH VM SIM INSIDE CAN OR WILL ACTIVATE AND LOCK THE PHONE TO VIRGIN MOBILE/BOOST MOBILE.
Then you cannot unlock the phone (switch away from Sprint/VirginMobile/BoostMobile) until you satisfy their requirements (usually 12 months with a service plan).

1. If you want to use this phone on GSM Networks like T-Mobile, AT&T, or International or a different CDMA network such as Verizon, you must use an UNLOCK SERVICE !vomit
There are sellers on eBay that will unlock the phone. They will ask for the IMEI number (not the ICCID number). The IMEI number can be found on the sticker on the box or on the metal backside of the phone towards the bottom.

DO NOT INSERT VM SIM CARD BEFORE IT IS UNLOCKED!

HERE ARE SOME SELLERS WHO WILL UNLOCK THE PHONE & WITH GOOD FEEDBACK & if they can't do it, you can get a refund.

The 1st seller charging $18.50 is able to unlock a Virgin Mobile iPhone 5S. No idea as to how reliable any of these eBay sellers are on unlocking the Virgin Mobile phones, but definitely worth trying since they will refund (and if they refuse just file Paypal/eBay dispute).

WARNING!!!

THE EBAY SELLERS WILL SAY YOU CAN FIND THE IMEI # (TO UNLOCK) IN THE PHONE'S SETTINGS.

DON'T TURN ON THE PHONE WITH VM SIM INSIDE.

FIND THE IMEI # ON THE iPhone BOX [coinpost.com]OR IF YOU CANT FIND IT ON THE METAL BACKSIDE [macworld.co.uk]HERE [macworld.co.uk]

WARNING: THE IMEI # ON THE BOX HAS 14 DIGITS BUT THE SELLERS MAY SAY IT NEEDS 15 DIGITS. THERE ARE 15 DIGITS ENGRAVED ON THE METAL BACK OF THE PHONE SO YOU MAY HAVE TO OPEN THE BOX TO TRY THE UNLOCK.vomit

If the Ebay unlocker you're using needs 15 digits, and you don't want to open the box, go to https://imeidata.net/tool/calculator and enter your 14 digit number; it will calculate the 15th digit, which is a check digit derived from the first 14.
Once the phone has been unlocked, to test you must insert an AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon SIM card. DO NOT TEST WITH THE VM SIM CARD!

A) $39.99 (300+ Users confirmed unlocked looking at the feedbacks) - http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOOST-VIR...81929564?/
B) $34.99 - boxit.unlocks: http://www.ebay.com/itm/272111467...IDX%3AIT .
C) $40.00 (CONFIRMED UNLOCK WITH THIS SELLER) - vladimir333vladimir: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIRGIN-MO...1784152956
D)$20.99 unlock_for_best http://www.ebay.com/itm/331716829691
took a while(1/19-1/31) but unlocked two of my phones
If you don't care about ATT/T-Mobile/Verizon & International Usage, then you don't need to unlock - just activate on RingPlus before turning on the phone. However, if you ever want to use on any of these networks, it's much cheaper to unlock the phone before it has been associated with a network (usually the unlocks before it's been activated are around $20 or so, but prices seem to be $50 and higher once its been registered to a network.)
Ringplus will ask for an MEID # OR ICCID Number [postimg.org] but it's important to use the ICCID Number because that's what enables Sprint LTE (faster speeds). So try the ICCID number that is on the sim card that is inside the phone or on a card that looks like this [images-amazon.com]. Type this number into the Ringplus website settings before turning on the phone for the first time.
Note: When you receive the package, you either may or may not receive an ICCID Card right away. I spoke to Virgin Mobile & they said the sim card with the necessary ICCD number for RingPlus would be in the iPhone 5S. It won't be shipped in a separate package. If it came with the sim card, then the ICCID number is printed on the sim card, so you will need to remove the sim card from the iPhone 5S using a pin or paper clip. If there's no sim card, & Virgin Mobile doesn't mail one, then you may have to get one from the Apple Store or Sprint Store perhaps hopefully for free (YMMV since Sprint stores only are supposed to give to Sprint customers - but just say something like Virgin Mobile said to get a sim card from Sprint). Then look at what the ICCID number says & enter it on the RingPlus website... Just don't turn on the phone at any point during this time.

NOTE: UNLOCK SERVICE is OPTIONAL FOR RINGPLUS, but if you ever want to switch to a GSM Network like T-Mobile/AT&T OR CDMA Verizon, it will cost around $50 or more since it's apparently harder to unlock the iPhone after it's been activated to a network. It is cheaper to unlock fully first (~$20), then use Ringplus.

IF YOU TURN ON THE PHONE WITH VM SIM INSIDE BEFORE IT IS REGISTERED ON THE RINGPLUS NETWORK, THEN IT WILL BE LOCKED ON VIRGIN MOBILE & YOU'RE farked!!!
(IF YOU DO THIS GET ANOTHER ONE AS YOU HAVE 14 DAYS TO RETURN - BUT POSSIBLE THERE MAY BE A $50 RESTOCKING FEE).

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

1) People are saying don't open the box & activate it on RingPlus using the ICCID number. But isn't the SIM card in the phone, so how are you supposed to activate this phone on Ringplus if you have to open the box, or is the ICCID number somewhere else like on a receipt or something?

ANSWER: Some new reports from people indicate the MEID number can be used to activate the phone on RingPlus and the MEID Number can be found on the box, BUT THE ICCID NUMBER IS NEEDED TO ACTIVATE SPRINT LTE.
Then the ICCID number can be found on the sim card which may be inside the iPhone. If the sim card didn't come in a separate package, you will have to open the box, check if the sim card is in the iPhone (use a paperclip to remove it), and remove the sim card (DO NOT TURN THE PHONE ON YET!!!) to find the ICCID number that RingPlus needs to activate.

According to Virgin Mobile Return Policy: They don't mention anything about a restocking fee on their return policy: "Phones purchased directly from Virgin Mobile may be returned for a full refund within 14 days of purchase. You must have the original receipt, packaging materials and all components. Please contact Virgin Mobile Customer Care at 1-888-322-1122 for instructions."

2) There are a lot of hassles to unlock this phone going through Sprint - no one has confirmed whether or not Sprint will unlock it for international use. We know Sprint doesn't allow the GSM part for domestic use, however, this phone can be unlocked so that it can be used DOMESTICALLY and INTERNATIONALLY & IT MAY COST MORE TO ACTIVATE IF IT DOESN'T ACTIVATE EASILY. However, it says this supports NEW & UNACTIVATED devices? So should a person first activate this using the eBay unlock THEN on RingPlus?

Answer: "I think it's probably best to unlock it first through eBay seller (YOU NEED THE IMEID NUMBER WHICH U CAN FIND ON THE BOX [coinpost.com] OR THE METAL BACK SIDE OF THE PHONE & DO NOT TURN ON THE PHONE), AND THEN REGISTER THE MEID NUMBER (OR ICCID NUMBER PRINTED ON THE SIM CARD). ONCE YOU REGISTER THE ICCID NUMBER ON RINGPLUS AND RINGPLUS HAS IT LISTED ON ITS NETWORK THEN YOU CAN FINALLY TURN ON THE PHONE FOR THE FIRST TIME."

3) IF WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO OPEN THE BOX BEFORE ACTIVATING WHERE DO WE FIND THE ICCID NUMBER TO INPUT INTO RINGPLUS TO ACTIVATE? DONT YOU HAVE TO OPEN THE BOX TO BE ABLE TO FIND THE ICCID NUMBER TO ACTIVATE ON RINGPLUS?

Answer: "THERE MAY BE a Virgin Mobile supplied card that will state the ICCID Number. IT WILL LOOK LIKE THIS [images-amazon.com] . READ QUESTION 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TURN ON THE PHONE BEFORE REGISTERING THE MEID NUMBER/ICCID NUMBER ON RINGPLUS.

4) Apple extended warranty cost & is it worth it?

Answer: It costs $99 & not worth it.

5) What's the difference between the Virgin Mobile VS Boost Mobile iphone 5s? Which one has better coverage and/or better for RingPlus?

Answer: They should be the same. Since they're both CDMA & under Sprint Network. Not sure if they have any differences in coverage for whatever reason though.

6) IF I HAVE A VERIZON SIM CARD AND I PUT IT INTO THIS PHONE BEFORE ACTIVATING, WILL IT BECOME "COMPLETELY UNLOCKED" so that it can work on both domestic GSM and CDMA? Will Sprint allow this phone to work on its network once if it's been activated on Verizon's (if this is possible?

A: "PHONE MUST BE DOMESTICALLY UNLOCKED FIRST THROUGH EBAY SELLERS, THEN YOU CAN INSERT VERIZON SIM CARD TO GET VERIZON LTE, AND MAKE/RECEIVE PHONE CALLS ACCORDING TO THIS ON REDDIT. [reddit.com]"

"Someone on thread around maybe 100-200 comments into the thread indicated being able to use the Sprint iPhone with Verizon using a Verizon sim card. The Sprint/VM phone needs to be unlocked first (using one of those eBay sellers to factory unlock it - DO NOT ACTIVATE PHONE BEFORE DOING THIS). Here's a thread showing how someone did it. [howardforums.com]The Sprint iPhone has the same bands as the Verizon model, so in theory it should work & people have done it but YMMV. Also, no clue as to how data speeds would be effected either."

"Verizon will give you a hard time if the Sprint iPhone wasn't originally a Verizon iPhone or they may flat out refuse to activate it. Your Sprint iPhone should be FIRST unlocked through an unlock service on eBay. THEN activate the SIM card on a Verizon branded device. After that just insert the SIM card into the unlocked iPhone and it should work right away. "

7: How to activate on Ringplus?
Answer: Do not turn it on until after you activate it through Ringplus. Powering it on before will lock the phone to VirginMobile.

8: Can this be used on any other carriers once activated by RingPlus or Freedompop?
[B]Answer: Pretty sure you can use it on Boost mobile as well, but you could get the same phone from boost at the same price.

9: Can I confirm the lock status of the phone without really opening the box?
Answer: There is someone providing gsx check service on internet. They can check your iPhone activation policy (agains official apple database). You will get 2 activity policies in the check result, the 1st should always be policy 2174 which is the initial activation policy for this phone: sprint locked policy. The 2nd policy is the current enforced policy for your phone. If it's still policy 2174, that means it's still locked. If it's policy 2303, that means it's unlocked.
