My local Homedepot has the Ring Video Doorbell (Wi-Fi Enabled) for $99, regular $199. This is a ymmv since it was in the clearance section. I also picked up some of the gocontrol z-wave sensors/motion detector/ alarm. $49 and $24.

They also have the Canary alarm system for 99. Half off.

Half off of regular price. Prices do not show online, this is ymmv at B&M stores.

This is my first post, so take it easy on me

I was going to pick up the Ring around Black Friday when they had the accidental stacking coupons that made it $99. Almost all the reviews seemed to be favorable, but then I read the after-the-initial reviews (follow-up reviews, edited reviews, etc.)

The BIG problem is that the Ring is not weather-proof no matter what the box says. Three to 9 months seems to be the normal use before it needs to be replaced. Thankfully, the company doesn't seem to mind sending out new units once a year to those affected by the weather.

But for $99, I don't expect to be replacing it yearly. I was waiting for it to drop to 1/4 the price or for the next revision/generation to come out.

It has an internal rechargeable battery that lasts several months if you don't want to hard-wire it. The physical doorbell chime costs extra if you don't want to rely on just your phone or tablet ringing you.

So, yes, it can work in an apartment complex if you are allowed to mount it somewhere. They also have theft-protection so you can get free replacements if you can prove yours was stolen off your mount.

we bought one a few months ago and love it. no, it isn't 100% weatherproof, but only direct water would do it in. I suggest getting some plumbers putty or something to seal it at the wires to a wall if it's not flush, but otherwise it's perfect.

Mine lasted about 9 months before the button fell off and would no longer connect to wifi network. They did send a replacement though and it works fine.

The motion detection doesn't work very well though, the recording always starts late

Not to mention that for most people, the doorbell location is sheltered. In that case, you get hardly any water on the unit. So no worries. I bought it on an earlier SD and it works great.

If you place this where it gets dunked in rain, perhaps you might have something to worry.
