Shutting down multiple PCs with a CP1500PFCLCD?

Maybe someone here can help shed some light as to an easy way to connect two desktops to a CP1500PFCLCD and use the USB 2 connection (it only has one) and the Power Panel personal edition software to shutdown two PCs when on battery for X minutes as opposed to just the one connected via USB 2 cable?

I read that they have a Power Panel business edition that supposedly is compatible with this unit but is not guaranteed to work that can handle this via a shutdown command script but I am reluctant to go that way without being sure it will do no harm. Anyone have experience with this situation and solve it?

Thanks.

You just need to find a way to make the computer that's connected to the UPS send a signal to the other computer via your network to shutdown/hibernate as part of a script the UPS activates (something with the built in shutdown.exe might be adequate). I don't have a ready made solution off the top of my head, but I don't think it would be too hard to find one.

Looked up model... simplest option: connect 1st computer via usb, connect 2nd computer by serial cable with rs-232 to usb adapter if necessary.

If both computers are on the same network all you would need to do is use a simple script. Examples of these types of scripts can be found in the Microsoft Technet Library [microsoft.com].

The way this would work is the ups tells PC1 to shut down. Your script would kick in and instruct PC2 to shut down.

Interesting idea. Have not used a serial port in like 20 years lol. Worth a shot.
