Automatic Trading using APIs

Thread Details

I am currently evaluating trading platform to trade (only stocks, not penny stocks) on a daily basis. Not everyday though, may be 10-15 days a month. So far I have looked at IB (interactivebrokers.com) and I am going to take a look at trade station (tradestation.com).

IB API looks super complex and I am looking for something simple. All I need is to place an order as soon as the market opens for buy and place another order to sell before the market closes.

Anyone has any experience with these or any other trading platforms.

TIA

Try investfly.com. You can automate trades and also set up rules and alerts.

Ah.... why don't you just place buy on open and sell on close orders?

But if you must DIY. Checkout TradeKing. Their API is trivially simple.

Robinhood is absolutely bare bones. Regardless, do they have an API? I kind of doubt it or they wouldn't be limited to mobile.

You can use Thinkorswim and create a strategy. It uses their proprietary Thinkscript language. PM me if you need assistance.

The IB platform is actually relatively simple. I have an algorithm that has been running for almost 2 years now with minimal issues. Do understand though that the IB data feed is staggered and uses snapshot data instead of tick by tick real time data.
