Upon digging more,
Slickdeals app on android AND website did not have my facebook account linked,
But somehow, it sent deal alerts today at 11:45am EST to ALL my friends.
Facebook also had the option to interact with 3rd party apps by default.
This seems to be an issue with Slickdeals app bypassing EVERYTHING. It even sent me emails regarding deals which option i have always had disabled.

Hi Christian - We are not aware of anything of this nature and would like to better understand what happened. You are saying that all of your friends received SD deal alerts from the FB Messenger app on Android? We do not have that functionality. Wondering if you have screenshots or any additional info you could provide: number of friends impacted, specific message they received, etc. and we can dig into it, but highly unusual and as I mentioned not something that we are aware of. Please let us know, thanks!

Hey ChristianM19 - We're still looking into this and are pretty baffled. Just wanted to update you... I've reached out to the team and we're trying to understand what could possibly trigger this. I'll let you know what we find.

So here's what we've found: on Android, from virtually any deal details page you can 'share' that deal, and Facebook Messenger is indeed one of the methods you can use to share. However, in order to engage this functionality, you must tap share and then select "Messenger" - the app simply does not do this automatically under any circumstance.

Is it all possible that this was a case of 'pocket dial'? That somehow inadvertently that share functionality was engaged accidentally in course of holding the phone, etc.? Was this a deal you were viewing?

In any case, I think it is safe to say this will not happen again. If for any reason it did, we would have a major bug on our hands, but to date we can't reproduce this.

Hope this helps, let me know thanks!

Thanks!
And no, I don't think it happened by accident.
I follow you guys on twitter as well as having the slickdeals app.
I remember seeing that same deal on twitter but I did nothing about it. A few minutes later, I kept getting msgs as to saying what it was that I had sent them. Then, as soon as i see my messages, it appeared as that every single friend of mine received a message with that specific "deal".
Perhaps it was a one-time occurance that somehow happened to me. However, it was by no means accidental on my part. My phone was off my hands and charging when that happened.

okay, great all good info. Apologies that happened! I will take to the team and see if we can understand more about what could have happened from what you describe. Anyhow thanks for reporting and let us know if anything like that occurs again!
