Starting Sunday, January 17th, HHGregg is offering

Samsung 4K Ultra HD 3D Smart TV for $998
60 Inches

It is model UN60JU7090

Seems to be a new version so no reviews handy but it follows a line of TVs that seem to be very well regarded

I have not bought a TV in several years and would appreciate people's take on this...specifically, how does football look on it?

I sell these TVs so I will happily share with customers that the JU7090 is a one-off "Frankenstein" model created specifically as a Superbowl promotional item. The panel in the TV is not a Samsung Panel. You can very easily confirm this by going into any store that has it on display and see on the back of the TV the "VERSION" will not be TS01 or TH01. Only those two versions are a Samsung LCD panel. Why do they do this? Simple, to get the customer that doesn't have a lot to spend into a TV that looks and smells like a high end TV but doesn't contain the high end build quality features. You are much better off buying a 55" JU7100 or 55" JS7000 if you want to stay close to $999, and at least this way you are getting a Samsung panel. The image quality is drastically different. The true Samsung panels do not look different when you are looking at them off-center. They also have much better black level and contrast. The missing features: Pur color, Ultra Clear Panel, and Wide Color Enhancer Plus have EVERYTHING to do with picture quality. This is why they are absent from, the 7090, it's a different panel.

EVERY popular brand in the TV industry does this!!! Sony is currently doing the same thing with their 850C Model series....

It would be like buying a Mercedes Benz or BMW that has an engine from Hyundai under the hood :-(I have been selling TVs since 1999.

I hope this helps!!

OK. Now a review from NOT a salesman, but from someone that actual owns one and sees how nice it is.

This TV is AMAZING! I had been looking for a 60" 4K 3D TV since before Black Friday and nothing was at my target price of $1000. This was better than that and I thought it might be too good to be true. I got Amazon to price match the 11% discount from HH Gregg and got free shipping to boot!
I just finished testing/playing with my new TV for a few hours and I am extremely happy. The 3D is great and very easy on the eyes. I watched half of the Transformers streamed from Amazon in 4K and was blown away. I streamed a bunch of 4K videos on YouTube as well. There is a Costa Rica demo that is incredible. It looked like I was there looking out my window. This all streamed wirelessly over my Verizon Fios router. i thought I was going to have to run a long network patch cable from my TV to my router but was very surprised that I don't. Out of the box the picture was just good but using the tweaks suggested here everything pops:

picture mode: natural
backlight: 10
contrast: 100
brightness: 40
sharpness: 60
color: 40
tint: in the middle g50 r50

Picture Options:

Color Tone: Standard
Digital Clean View: High
MPEG Noise Filter: High
Film Mode: Auto2
Auto Motion Plus: Clear

There is a lot of crap talk about where the parts of this TV is coming from and how this is just a Super Bowl TV, that will be gone tomorrow, etc... but guess what, I don't give a whoot about all that. There are many reviews from people that actually own them that are very happy with their purchases just like me. I bought a 4 year warranty from Costco for $59 and can rest assured that if there are any problems with it in the future I am covered. Seriously people, I replaced my Sony 1080P 55" LCD TV with this and I think this has a much nicer picture. Don't listen to all the naysayers and jump on this while you can. You won't regret it. If you do you can always return it, It you don't buy it and these are only available for this Super Bowl promotion then you may regret it.

I hope this helps more Wink

Samsung UN60JU7090 Smart Remote Setup Procedure

Compatible Remotes:

·Samsung Smart Remote Model # BN59-01220E
·Samsung Smart Remote Model # BN59-01184A

Before proceeding if you have setup your television to your liking you need to write down any settings, when we enter the service menu your settings will revert to factory (Most of them anyways)

***Also be sure to not use the right or left arrow buttons while in the Service Menu unless you are at a setting you want to change. Another good idea is to snap a picture with your phone etc. of each screen you enter before changing anything incase you do mess something up you will have the settings to revert back to.***

Service Menu Procedure:

·Power TV Off
·On Standard Remote Press the following: Mute. 1, 8, 2 then Power
·TV will Power on and shortly the Service Menu will open
·Select Option by using the select key on standard remote
·Use down arrow highlight MRT Option then press select
·Use down arrow until it highlights Smart Control
·Use right arrow Key until selection changes to ON
·Use return button until you get back to main Menu Screen
·Press Mute 2 times and Television will restart, if not after selecting Mute 2 times Power off and then Power back on TV
·Once you are back to standard TV Screen you need to pair your remote.
·Press and hold the return and guide buttons on Smart Remote until you see a message at bottom of screen stating Paired.

You can look in manual at instructions on how to use or just toy with the remote and it is pretty easy to figure out.

*I am not sure the voice feature will work or not, I will continue testing but the smart remote works with pointer etc.

Is this one also under panel lottery?

Looks like the 7090 comes with a standard remote as opposed to the smart remote on the 7100.

It'll probably be at all stores as a Samsung promotion like they did with the 7100 series for the same price

Yeah, if you are lucky you will get an LCD panel from early 2000. Then, you can resell that lottery panel to a panel collector for a huge profit...

AFAIK some TV makers outsource panels even for the same model.

You may gate a VA-type, IPS-type, made by Sammy, made by some other company, etc. even under the same model number/model name. Only specific example I can think of right now is the 2011 LG 47LK520 where you could get an S-IPS panel or something else even if they're the same LG 47LK520 line.

AFAIK, that's what "Panel Lottery" is.

I've been waiting for a Samsung 55"+ 4K 3D TV deal for a bit, and this looks pretty damn good for the price. Plus I have an hhgregg credit card so I can get the 24 months no interest deal. I can hand the 2013 model 55" 1080p 3D down to the kids.

Things to consider when buying a 4K tv.
Do they do at least HDR AND Dolby Vision, the two main formats?
Backpanel technology - quantum dots? LED lighting - zones, edge or ???
HDCP 2.2 is a must as well. This tv has it but many do not!

You may want to add the TV's size in the title. I just saw:

Samsung 4K Ultra HD 3D Smart TV: $998 at HH Gregg starting Sunday Jan 17th

and I was thinking "That sounds like a decent price...wait, what size is it? It doesn't say?"
