Thread Details

I have an 8" LG G pad which is great but I'm sick of playing android games. I was think of getting an NVIDIA Shield K1, Dell Venue 8 or other budget tablet or maybe a cheap laptop, like an Asus X205TA.
It doesn't have to be able to play the latest/greatest PC games; maybe Skyrim and some older games.
Thoughts?

Thanks

Skyrim may be older, but it's still very good graphically IMO.

Most of my gaming these days is done on a Windows tablet. Can't play the new Fallout or Just Cause but just about everything else is fair game depending on the tablet.

Currently playing Pillars of Eternity, Lords of the Fallen and Dragons Dogma on a Dell Venue Pro 11 7140. Excellent machine but not really a cheap tablet.

I would avoid that DVP8 though, spent more time screwing with it and fixing it rather than playing anything. It only got worse with updates and hardware revisions.

That Atom tablets are somewhat limited. They can handle stuff like Skyrim, but you have to turn every setting to an absolute minimum and possibly use dehancement mods on top of that.

The Venue Pro 11 is at least $450. I'm looking to stay under $200

Best tablet you can get at that price would be a used Lenovo thinkpad 8 64gb model. Slightly faster processor than the DVP8 and faster drive and memory. Not to say that it is a gaming powerhouse either. I did mod mine at one point to handle heat better, but I question why exactly I bothered.

At that price cap, looking for a business class Dell in a used or open box sale would be your best bet.

I recently found a Dell 6230 i7QM on ebay for slightly above what you are looking at. There may be some wiggle room there for a lower end machine but I have found it to be surprisingly capable and a good performance to price score.

Why do you think you want a tablet? Tablets are crap for any gaming other than angry birds or other tablet games. Your question makes no sense.
