Legends 2 – Mid Week Deal

Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 4PM local regional times until Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 4PM local regional times

Availability Notice:
Subscriptions will open at each local regional time rather than the whole country at once. Plans will be available at the following times per region in the USA. Starting with East Cost RingPlus will open at 4PM EST, followed by 4PM CST, 4PM MST, and 4PM PST.

Due to the high demand of RingPlus Free Cell Plans and ultra low cost cell service, we have to implement some limitations with our wireless partners to handle the capacity.

Any time during the promo, you may see a message during the sign up process; “We are sorry, but the maximum capacity has been reached please try again within an hour.” This means RingPlus had to temporarily close for new subscriptions, and will re-open soon due to the volume we absorbed within that hour.

5]Plans[/SIZE]:

Mel Hein Free Plan:
$0/mo. for 1,000 minutes (plus Unlimited RingPlus-to-RingPlus calling), 1,000 texts (plus Unlimited RingPlus-to-RingPlus calling), and 750 MB of 4G LTE data
A $20 Top Up is required to cover overages. If, and only if, the Top-Up balance reaches $0, another $20 auto Top Up will be automatically charged to your credit card on file.
This plan is open only to new subscriptions or new lines.
Available at ringplus.net.

Eddie Arcaro Free Plan:
$0/mo. for 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts, and 750 MB of 4G LTE data, plus tethering included
A $20 Top Up is required to cover overages. If, and only if, the Top-Up balance reaches $0, another $20 auto Top Up will be automatically charged to your credit card on file.

Important

Please do not deactivate your current service with another provider until your port-in to RingPlus is complete, and your phone is up and running on RingPlus. Otherwise, you may lose your phone number permanently, and lose service temporarily.

Please check with your current carrier to make sure you don't owe any money on the phone or plan, and please note that if you activate any eligible device with RingPlus, and you have an existing contract with a different carrier, you are responsible for any unpaid costs due on your phone, your plan, and other fees that may be applied by your current carrier.

All other RingPlus legal terms also apply, and can be found at https://promos.ringplus.net/legal-terms.html. Please read them. If there is any difference or conflict between the terms of this offer and any other RingPlus legal terms, the terms of this offer will control (i.e., the terms of this offer will override the other legal terms).
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Could people PLEASE STOP answering questions from members who clearly have never even bothered to search the Wiki, let alone just reading a relevant section? Please also consider updating or clarifying the Wiki, instead of answering individually, so your knowledge is not buried given the voluminous posts.

RingPlus is not for everyone
  • RingPlus is not as simple as buying a branded phone and phone card from a retail store.
  • If you are not willing to do some reading and searching around, RingPlus may not be for you.
  • There have also been several service outages, and certain features (e.g., voicemail [ringplus.net]) still do not work reliably or as expected.
  • If these are not acceptable or you have lots of issues, RingPlus may not be for you either.

For a new phone, do NOT open the retail packaging until after successful RingPlus sign-up
  • So the phone can be returned if sign-up fails.
  • If you power on the phone before sign-up, the phone might (or likely will?) activate automatically to its original mobile operator (e.g., a Boost phone activate automatically to Boost). A factory reset might not fix it.
  • If you power on the phone after successful sign-up, the phone might (or likely will?) activate automatically to RingPlus.

What is RingPlus
More things to be aware of
More things to know
Phones must have been WHITELISTED by Sprint
SIM Card
  • A 3G or older phone does NOT require a SIM card.
  • A 4G LTE phone requires a Sprint or MVNO (Boost, Ting, Virgin) SIM card.
    • A new (presumably 4G LTE) Sprint-specific (including Boost and Virgin) phone will already come with a compatible SIM card.
    • Otherwise, see both OP and Wiki of thread with SIM card models and pricing info.
      • Either SIMGLW426C or SIMGLW446C will work for Nexus 6.
      • SIMGLW406R for iPhone 5. SIMGLW426C or SIMGLW436C for other iPhones.
    • Sprint SIM cards are NOT universal. Make sure you get a correct one.

Sign-Up (to register a "user" and under it one "line")
  • For MEID/ESN, if DEC does not work, try HEX, and vice versa.
  • Be sure to enter ICC ID, which is actually required for most LTE devices, during sign-up.
  • When you add a new credit card, you need to enter both "Card Holder's Name" and Name at Billing Address.
  • Credit Card Gateway Rejection: AVS [ringplus.net] Also, try your old address.
  • After sign-up, you will have registered a "user" and under it one "line" (see below).

A "User/E-mail/Your Dashboard" can have multiple "Lines/Phone Numbers/Accounts"
  • A user (or unique e-mail login) has one Your Dashboard (URL contains "users"), and can have multiple lines (URL for a line contains "accounts").
  • Each line (or unique phone number) is an "account", and has its own plan, its own monthly allotments, and its own account balance.
  • A person should not use more than one free line [ringplus.net] according to RingPlus CEO in 10/2015.
  • You may want to have only one line under a user and not "Activate a New Line", because you might only be able to add an e-mail once to an upgrade waiting list.

For each Line: Account Balance, Top-Up, Monthly Allotments
  • Except for the "Truly Free" plan, a plan typically require an initial top-up (plus taxes and fees, see below), so that your account balance is more than $0.
  • You receive monthly allotments, depending on your plan, of: (x) voice minutes, plus (y) text messages, plus (z) MB of mobile data.
    • Monthly allotments are renewed every month, with NO rollover.
    • You can track your usages (against your monthly allotments) when you click on a line in Your Dashboard.
    • When you click on a line in Your Dashboard, data is shown in GB, and 1 GB = 1024 MB. For example, 1200 MB is shown as 1200 / 1024 = 1.17 GB.
    • If you are still concerned, for Android phones, under Settings, Data usage, you can set warning and limit for mobile data usage.
  • Account balance is deducted for MMS, International SMS, Overage, fees [ringplus.net] you to incur, and add-ons you buy.
    • MMS can be disabled when you click on a line in Your Dashboard, under Account Features, Manage Device.
    • Overage is typically 2 cents per minute, text message, or MB that you go over your monthly allotments.
    • SMS and/or Data can also be disabled, just like MMS, when you click on "Manage Device".
  • Account balance does not expire and carries over to next month.
  • If a plan has a $0 Monthly Price (i.e., no monthly charge / "free"), you will NOT be charged again if your account balance stays above $0 (i.e., you will ONLY be charged if and only if your account balance drops to $0).
    • For example, suppose your account balance is $2.01, and further suppose device swapping costs $1.99. After you "Swap Device" to a another phone, your account balance will be $2.01 - $1.99 = $0.02, and your credit card will NOT be charged because your account balance will still be above $0.

Taxes and Fees on Top-Up
  • For $x in top-up (or add-on), you are charged ($x in top up + $y in taxes and fees).
    • The $x in top-up shows up in your account balance.
    • The $y in taxes and fees show up once in your invoice. The taxes and fees do NOT recur.
      • This example is in fact normal for the first month. No need to create a new ticket/post.
  • If you buy an add-on, and it costs less than your account balance, the cost will be deducted from your account balance. Otherwise it is charged separately and taxed:

Activation (for service, i.e., provisioning)
Upgrade Waiting List (for upgrading to a PROMO PLAN previously open ONLY to NEW LINES)
  • What is an upgrade waiting list for?
    • If you have already signed up (i.e., you have an existing line), you can sign up for an upgrade waiting list, so that the existing line can be upgraded to a PROMO PLAN that was previously open ONLY to NEW LINES during a previous promotion.
      • For example, the Legends 1 promotion ran from 1/15 to 1/18. One promo plan was called Sammy Baugh, and it was open ONLY to NEW LINES from 1/15 to 1/18.
      • On 1/20, an upgrade waiting list for Sammy Baugh became open, so that if you had an existing line, you could potentially be upgraded to Sammy Baugh later on.
    • If you just want to upgrade to a NON-PROMO PLAN, you do not need to be on an upgrade waiting list. Instead, simply click on "Upgrade Plan".
      • If your existing plan is "free", you must toggle "Next Billing Cycle" to Yes.
  • Currently OPEN upgrade waiting list [ringplus.net]
    • Not all promo plans have an upgrade waiting list.
    • People do NOT know when/if/which promo plan or its upgrade waiting list will open or close.
    • To make changes, click on link in previous e-mail. Or, sign up again and click on link provided in new e-mail (may need to cancel and sign up again).
  • CLOSED upgrade waiting lists:
  • Upgrade top up charge:

Swapping vs. New line Waiting Period
Porting
  • Beware of likely delays if you port over a weekend or holiday. RingPlus does not work weekends and holidays, and supposedly porting is a manual process.
  • Tip: You may want to consider porting to Google Voice, and forward calls from Google Voice to RingPlus.

Enable built-in tethering for LG phones (root NOT required)

It's still free, isn't it?

Or do you complain when you find a $20 bill on the ground because you found a $100 one last week? Smilie

Perfect analogy. Smilie

Instead of the "time for all those repeat questions" it's time for all the thumbs down & "bad deal" posts. We can't win, can we lol ... nor it seems can R+ unless they keep giving away more data (edit: which is not the money maker calls are).

I do have to say top up could be a bit lower to be more enticing like $15 BUT I can see how this would be really good for families or even R+ friends that call/text each other a lot. It's a great incentive to get more of your family/friends to sign up & then it's basically free calls/texts among them.

New lines qualify too so you can sign up say, for your other half or other family member. And the Eddie Arcaro plan doesn't seem to have a monthly fee for tethering so that's a good thing.

Hmm it seems we're going through a stream of not as enticing deals before they hit us with the ones we were looking forward to before

1,000 minutes is still way more than I would need (that's over 16 hours of voice minutes a month, and I hardly ever break 200 minutes personally), and I'm happy that they haven't totally given up on Free Tethering plans. To me, that's worth more than extra minutes that I'll never use. Smilie But then, the *majority* of my calling is done in the comfort of my home with a wireless headset connected to an Obihai with Google Voice. Smilie

I haven't had a landline phone bill in 10 years, and I'm working on 3 years without a cell phone bill now. I can't complain. Smilie

So, if I go over 750MB without purchasing a data add on, I get charged another $20 for another 750MB?

Could be they were trying to hit specific subscriber numbers for the end of 2015. Perhaps they hit those targets, and now we're settling in to something that's more sustainable. We'll have to see what happens around the March time frame, when we get close to the end of the quarter; if they need to shore up those numbers for quarterly reports, we might start seeing some of the deals we saw at the end of 2015.

Totally just a guess though. Smilie
