HD radio add-on for my car? Can Sirius Receiver get HD for free?

ghostfreckle 50 26 January 20, 2016 at 07:34 PM
I'm trying to be able to play HD Radio in my car without tearing it apart. Is there a recommended device for this?

I want to be able to see cover arts and all the info that gets streamed with the radio signal.

Something with Bluetooth or auxiliary out put to car?

I was wondering if I bought a Sirius XM Receiver and didn't want to pay, could I listen to the free HD Radio broadcasts?

Thanks. ConfusedConfusedConfused

So are you thinking a new head unit then or something else?
What made and model of car?

Not sure about an XM receiver to get HD Radio or not, probably depends on the model. I would think if it did the HD radio portion would work regardless of a subscription.

http://www.crutchfield.com/ is known for their excelent help. Might be worth calling them up to talk about and see what they suggest. Report back if you do.

XM is a subscription service, radios are activated for the service via their serial number.

You will only receive free service during XM advertising campaigns. These last for about 60 days and run just before Christmas each year.

Plans and pricing can be seen here [siriusxm.com].

Usually XM radios are add ons to your car radio. I don't think any of them have HD, since they're generally not radios, just .. umm... like antennas for your existing radio.

I didn't think cover art got streamed through HD radio? Just that each radio station could have multiple sub frequencies, and they can stream text like the song title.

ya the cars I have used with HD radio it's better quality, more stations on the same frequency and more data. I don't remember any cover art.
