I mean the new Samsung Galaxy S6 or G4 etc, that has tmobile logo on it. A T-mobile Galaxy S6 would have a slightly different software (and sometimes hardware) on it vs a AT&T Galaxy S6 for example.

When I say certified to use Band 12, I don't mean that Tmobile has to talk to FCC to use it. What I mean is that individual phone makers have to get their phone certified by T-mobile to use VoLTE. From this article [androidpolice.com] :

"In order to obtain VoLTE compliance for band 12, phones must go through T-Mobile's rigorous network certification process (and yes, unlocked phones can go through this certification)."

That's the certification I'm talking about, not the $2.4 billion dollar thing with Verizon and FCC.

Where do you get the idea that band 12 is only used for VoLTE? The Phonescoop article? That article says nothing about voice vs data on band 12. When the article says 'phone', it just means that it's used on cellular phones, not that it's used only for phone calls.

I can use Band 12 on my Blu One Life X for browsing the web, but I can't make a phone call without it dropping to HSPA because it doesn't support VoLTE. Scroll down about half way to see non-compliant phones that support band 12. http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones . Those phone cannot make VoLTE calls on t-mobile even if it is able to use Band 12 for data.

VoLTE can be carried on bands other than 700mhz spectrum. For example, a Samsung Galaxy Avant (spec here) [gsmarena.com] does not have 700mhz support yet it is on the list of devices supporting VoLTE [t-mobile.com].

If a phone support VoLTE but doesn't support band 12, that's fine. Your calls will be routed through one of other LTE bands. If a phone doesn't support LTE, that's fine too. The phone call will be routed through UMTS or GSM bands. This is only a problem when you have band 12 LTE and absolutely nothing else. Since band 12 has much farther reach than other bands (including UMTS and GSM bands), the phone will see band 12 and won't know to roam to a different carrier to phone calls. Then the phone call will never connect. This is a problem since phone carriers are legally required to allow roaming when someone is trying to call 911.

Tmobile doesn't manufacturer phones, but it has the ability to influence phone makers to modify the phone's software to better meet T-mobile's network requirements. The reason why the Nexus 6p and 5x doesn't have band 12 and VoLTE at release is because Google/LG didn't finish working with T-mobile on getting band 12 supported. See this article [droid-life.com] where in a Reddit AMA a google engineer said "We're hard at work with T-Mo to get Band 12 on Nexus devices by ship date."

T-mobile isn't even the worst one. AT&T won't allow non-AT&T branded phones do 'HD Voice' (what AT&T calls VoLTE) except for Iphone 6 and 6plus.

Can anyone confirm that this will NOT work with T-mobile's 12 band? The only thing I've seen so far is from this http://www.androidpolice.com/2016...-or-worse/ and they stated it does not work with T-mobile's 12 band.. Is that true?

There's a very technical reason for this that involve Voice over LTE certification but the short answer is T-Mobile has to certify a phone before it can use band 12.

I asked them on twitter and this was their reply.

@HuaweiDeviceUSA Will your new upcoming Honor 5x work with T-mobile's 12 band in the U.S.?

@me Hello, yes the Honor 5x will work on T-Mobile's network. Be sure to check out @Honor_USA for all things Honor! (AI)

I then wrote..

@HuaweiDeviceUSA @Honor_USA You didn't answer my question, specifically for tmobile will the Honor 5x work on their band 12?

@me Hello, yes it is currently working on their 12 band. (AI)

The good thing is that Huawei know what loop to jump through for the certification process since 6p went through it.

The question that needs answering, is it compatible with T-Mobile's VOLTE implementation? If not, no voice service on band -12.

I agree to a certain extent. All these so called professional reviewers seem to have a really hard time NOT comparing these midrange Androids to flagships. This phone should be strictly compared to $200.00-$250.00 list price phones like: Alcatel One Touch Idol, Huawei P8 Lite, Blu Life One X, Zenfones and a few others.

One touch idol got overwhelmingly positive reviews. The Huawei honor was criticized for having really terrible software on it. I think professional reviews have more weight than you imply.
