This is similar to Tmobile free 200mb data plan. But it works on any unlocked GSM devices including phones. I believe it uses T-mobile network in U.S. And you also get free data globally. Since GSM (not Sprint), the plan is no longer tied to the device. You can swap the SIM to another device.

The downside is HSPA+.
Here is the article: http://www.engadget.com/2016/01/2...lobal-sim/

updated: 2 options
1. $49.99 Mifi: may include SIM
2. $10.00 SIm card: temporarily sold out
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Any honest-to-god voice minutes included in this, or is it all VOIP? I would be very interested if it included that.

@FreedomPop...Any chance that existing customers may get priority access to the SIMs once they're back in stock?

Freedompop's scam is you have to pay for real voice minutes once you find out how unreliable the free data and accompanying VOIP is in many parts (geographically most, actually) of the country.

Their customer service is a nightmare, too. Save yourself a headache and walk on by.

Here is another article about the service:
http://cellphonenews.thebestwebtips.com/2016/01/20/freedompop-launches-free-global-gsm-service-for-us-and-uk-users/

Because Sprint's coverage where I live is terrible, and T-Mobile's is excellent, this is a very tempting offer.

Here's the press release. It's not really "global". It's also funny they want you to go through and do the "do you qualify" for our service thing where you live even though it's "global".

If they allow friends feature on this service, I will gladly take it. Even say if they cap it at say 500MB.

I signed up for Freedompop knowing about this limitation, and in most cases it isn't an issue for me. I have the T-Mobile unlimited $30/mo deal, so I'm okay one way or another most of the time.

I'd be mostly interested in this to put a sim in my old Nexus 4 and have that around for backup or international use.
