Router WiFi coverage is bad in the night? Belkin ShareMax N300 F7D7301 v1

ms2000 1,310 28 January 23, 2016 at 11:02 AM
My Belkin ShareMax N300 F7D7301 v1 does not work well when it is night - the WiFi only works in the room where it is located. It was bought refurbished and I never upgraded Firmware.

Win 7 does not see the attached USB storage - but Win XP sees them.

What some best affordable routers nowadays? I prefer 2 USB ports - currently only using one USB.

The last FW is dated 2010 - they never released one since then.

I have one of these and it gets the job done quite well: http://slickdeals.net/f/8455699-asus-rt-n66r-dual-band-wireless-n900-gigabit-router-refurb-45-after-20-rebate-free-s-h It's a model that's been around for a few years now, but when it came out it was always rated near the top of the rankings on Small Net Builder. It's pretty awesome with the stock firmware and there are 3rd party firmwares that turn it into a beast. I've been running Shibby Tomato on mine for 2+ years.

I have several of these belkin routers. They're pretty decent, but what the op is describing sounds like the router is going bad.

You can try installing Tomato but I doubt it'll help much.

Thanks - why the avg rating is only 3 eggs?

Any AMEX Sync or Visa Chekout or coupons to make it attractive - especially 3 rating?

interference. use any metal/sheet to block your neighbor's signal to your router may help.

auto channel or manually try channel 1, 6 or 11

Most likely a reflection on the refurbisher. Frown It can be a roll of the dice to buy refurb stuff, but that's why it's cheap.

Best way to put it!
Encouraging to try - didn't find any additional discounts.

Do a site survey, check for interference, make sure you are using a non-overlapping channel, 3/6/11. All the usual crap.

If it was going bad I think it would be bad 24/7 not just at night. The night thing sounds like a software setting or some type of interference.

Your neighbors come home and start using spectrum to transfer data. Air density can also have an affect, nighttime local conditions could change.
