what's a good 2D fighter for steam, GOG or gamecube?

Thread Details

I found myself thinking about my favorite old 2D fighter today - Eternal Champions on the Sega Genesis. Other than a Capcom import for my Saturn, Capcom's Tower of Doom, I haven't played any other 2D fighters in about 16 years.

Can anyone recommend something 2D that might compare in quality to either of these, and hold my interest?

Thanks!

Scott Pilgrim remains one of my favorite games in the side-scrolling beat-em-up genre. And I've played a lot of them.

But not Tower of Doom, which he also mentioned, that's a side-scrolling beat 'em up.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 3:3S will always be the alpha and omega of 2d fighters. Not sure what they're available on. I know people like BlazBlu series a lot.

Tower of Doom? Confused
Both Eternal Champions and Tower of Doom are classified as 2D.

Seriously? I guess I always assumed that term was used to describe movement and not graphics.

You can assume whatever you want nod
I consider Double Dragon, River City Ransom, etc to be 2D even though you do have a degree of movement on multiple axes.

But...being able to move in more than 2 dimensional space means they are quite literally NOT 2D...

So this isn't an industry classification, but just a froggy classification...

You think you know a guy...I expect better out of you. Sadbye And the fact you don't even mention TMNT or The Simpsons Arcade...psssht...whatever.
