Not sure how they compare but I have the MFC-7860DW I picked up refurbed for about 70 at the time and absolutely love it. Really don't miss color at home for the rare printing I do but when I do, not having to worry about ink drying up and the ability to print duplex when needed are absolutely awesome. Only thing is that the brother wireless app kinda sucks.

how is refirb working out? how long have you had it? and what store?/online where? trying to see if i should be looking for refurb or new as my 5+yo hl-2170w is beginning to show drum issues.

Probably about 2 years now. Looked brand new one when I got it. Haven't had a single issue. Still on my first toner even though I ordered an off brand replacement one (linkyo brand.. Seemed highly rated) about a year ago still waiting in the box. Think my fuser only had about 100 print count on it when I got it. So as I said.. Basically brand new. Especially with the additional limited warranty I thought it was worth my chances. Even if it craps out now it was still a better deal than a low grade inkjet model. Another big benefit to me has been the excellent scanner both with the auto feed and the flatbed.

yes, its like $10

bought this printer around bf for same price minus shipping and I gotta say brother does an excellent job with what they produce. for the price it's an excellent printer that does it all. I do miss my fancy lcd screen because I cant really see this in the dark. other than that gripe this is great. pages print well, efficiently, and without hassle. I dont get annoying "your ink is running low" when it's still full of ink, because this printer doesnt institute the lame page count ink check that other brands do. scanning isnt super efficient because it's a flatbed, but scans are crystal clear.

I am super pleased with this

Thanks! I just bought one. I had been waiting for this to go on sale. Great little printer and scanner. Duplexing is nice too. USB, Wireless, and Ethernet.

Ordered from NewEgg to avoid tax.

Since I don't print often, a laser (toner) printer makes sense versus an inkjet printer that will eventually dry up or clog.

In for 1. I've seen other brands / models a little cheaper but with $10 replacement toner's it'll probably all pan out at the end of the day.
