New to this site retired military wife still in the service here in San Diego. We have signed up for the Space A flights which would save us a lot of hassle. Anyone know any deals for the philipines or ways to get better deals. Currently showing $1250 per person round trip.

Welcome!

For flights to the Phillipines,Asiana has the most options out of LAX and SAN.

$1,250 is definitely not a great price, so I recommend waiting. You are probably looking TOO far in advance for an international flight - no reason for airlines to engage in fare wars yet and some airlines won't have flight availability that for out yet.

A widely accepted rule of thumb is to purchase tickets 5 months in advance for international flights. From personal experience, I used to think this as an urban myth, but on multiple occasions have seen the price drop at the 5 month mark (based on setting up a fare alert tracker). Just happened last week on a Europe trip planned for June - compared to December, fares dropped $125.

Obviously, the popularity of your destination and high/low season timing will impact this (i.e. don't wait for flight deals to Greece in the summer), but I recommend setting up a fare alert now - will let you track fare changes daily and give you a good benchmark. You can use a site like Kayak.com or Skyscanner.com to set this up.

As for specific airlines, Asiana and Korean Air are great options out of SAN to Manila.

Hope this helps. You have plenty of lead time, so set up alerts, understand the benchmark fares, and set a Google alert to start looking in earnest in June (to get new benchmark) and July (5 months out)

BTW, I had to Google "Space A flight" - had no idea what it was, but sounds like a nice (and well-deserved) benefit for military

I typically use fly.com fare calendar to reference the most reasonable time to visit. I went to the Philippines last year for Christmas, it was about $1100 with Korean Air. My in-laws went in November, it was half of my fare. You'll have to be flexible on your days if you want to save.
