Can I use my regular AT&T SIMcard in a GoPhone?

Geata 10 June 16, 2008 at 03:32 PM
I'm on an AT&T family plan, and I broke my old phone (though I still have my SIMcard).

Would it work for me to use my regular family plan SIMcard in a $15 Wal-Mart GoPhone? I was going to do this when the guy at Wal-Mart told me that AT&T does "periodic scans" checking for people that do this, and that if they catch you they can remotely destroy your SIMcard. Is this true? (seem doubtful...) Has anyone done this?

laugh out loud bullsh*t.."periodic scans" (yes but not the way you think) laugh out loud They're not going to "remotely destroy your sim card"LMAO....about 24-48 hours of using the sim card in the gophone it's going to show up on your account(you can see on your account online..it'll be there)....you're a paying customer..they aren't going to do sh*t to be honest. There are many people who do this to get a cheap replacement phone..plus there's definitely more than a few thousand people using iPhone's on their gophone plan. Do they know about it? Of course they can tell from the IMEI number...but they aren't going to do anything about it..trust me Smilie

Short Answer: It'll work fine Smilie

Yes it will work, no they won't do scans. My wife's phone is a go phone on a family plan. Been like for 4 years now. It's about time to get another go phone for her. Not going to splurge the money for a new battery.

How did this work out for you? I'm contemplating doing the same. I have heard of people's accounts being locked. Frown

Works perfectly fine. I'm doing it right now. I did have a few issues with my voicemail as a result. If this happens to you press ##004# and hit send and that should fix it.

by all possibility if AT&T wanted to be crappy to you they could lock your account for this, but they wont because you are still paying/using their service..get a cheapie from wally world and then buy a nicer phone on ebay. simple

they ain't gonna do shiet. I bought an iphone with att contract, so I can unlock it to use with Tmobile (which work well). I called ATT to tell them that I don't have the iphone no more, and have another phone (Gophone) and it's fine. I needed to do because I don't want to pay for the data service, which save me $30.

In your case, you do not need to call since just swiping swaping sim cards in different phone going to destroy your phone or your sim card.
