I currently have both (bought to compare). The sockets are similar but don't just go by the number of sockets. A few examples, the $56 set: has several overlapping 12- and 6-point 1/4 in drive socket sizes, has a couple larger sized sockets (the $65 has some smaller though), has more adapters, but also has some missing sizes here and there (e.g., 1/2 12-point is missing 11/16 and 13/16 in the $56 set, but instead it has smaller sizes). The $65 set was more continuous in sizing as you step up from 1/4 to 3/8 to 1/2 drive. You can always use adapters w/ a socket that exists in a different drive size (e.g., use the 11/16" and 13/16" 3/8 drive sockets), but for some jobs this may make accessing the work area harder.

Yes, the $65 set has a lot of filler bits but note that the $56 set has about 20 drive bit sockets. Not filler, but for many folks, the drive bit sockets have limited functionality over regular socket bits (and you can always drop a regular bit in a 1/4" socket to approximate the effect).

The tool box on the $65 set is nice edited to remove incorrect information. I've confirmed mine locks; totally my user error]. The layout on the $65 set is also very nice--each drawer is a different drive size increasing as you go up. The $56 layout is a lot more random. The tool box has extra storage space.

That all being said, I think both are great deals. I may keep both. Not sure. Forgive the rambling reply, I'm at work but thought some might find this useful.

I was able to get that Husky Tool Kit with Metal Tool Box from previous SD (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-.../205897981) yesterday for $50 in my local HD so I am all set.

Haha. Yea I agree it's a great set. I'm tempted to buy one even though I already have a full craftsman set.

That was a good deal with the case. Too bad it wasn't available around me then.

Was that the in store price or did you use a coupon to get it to $50?

This $56 set actually has more sockets and less 'filler' items.

The $65 set came with 43 screwdriver bit and 20 hex keys. The $56 kit only has 22 bits and 14 hex keys.

The $56 dollar set also comes with 14 combination wrenches while the $65 set comes with 8 open end wrenches (each with 2 sizes).

The tool box is super nice. But if you just care about the tools, the $56 set is better.

You can bring a broken tool to home depot and exchange it on the spot. Husky is Home Depot's 'house brand'. This only covers tools however. If your toolbox is broken, i think there's only a 2 year warranty on it.
