Staples has two z-wave products on sale right now at hefty discounts. I could never figure out why the Aeotec Smart Strip was so expensive but this price makes it look a lot more appealing.

Credit to Brand-o: iOS users can use the Staples app and the code 21832 for an additional 15% off.

Aeotec Smart Strip - $49.99 (or less with iOS app)
The Aeotec Smart Strip has one power board, 6 power outlets and 4 wirelessly switchable outlets. Smart Strip lets you individually control 4 out of the 6 power points.

LinearLinc Z-Wave Siren Strobe - $29.99 (or less with iOS app)
Z-Wave enabled 105dB Siren and 10 lux Strobe with red lens. AC powered with rechargable battery backup.

can someone give me a trigger/automation/scenario use case for using the siren?

like would you have to manually enable/disable it with an alarm? im not going to set an alarm "if door open after 2am, trigger siren" b/c what if i one day need to open the door at 230am?

You know, I kind of want the powerstrip but it's not that much cheaper than buying 4 separate switches which would let you monitor each one separately.

Nice find. Closest thing I could find on Amazon is $41.55. GoControl Z-Wave Siren & Strobe - WA105DBZ-1, Cert ID: ZC08-14030016 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MNYS...RwbJV1TCHN

Different hubs likely use different implementations. Below is a link to how you would arm/disarm an alarm via smartthings. https://support.smartthings.com/h...me-Monitor

$50 for that strip is a killer deal. I've never seen it below about $80 so $50 is a steal. I posted to a past deal thread that this is a very useful device but has more specialized uses in mind. If you can't think of a use, please don't bash because for those that have a use for this in mind it's fantastic. Just move along to the next deal that fits your needs.

Personally, I've had one of these installed for my aquarium for years w/o issue. It has not one but FOUR outlets that show up on your smart home controller as individual items. This means you can set up scenes for each item plugged in and control them all independently. I use mine under my aquarium and have moon lights on one, daylight on another, a filter on one (I can quickly power it off when I do water changes as the inlet is only about 1/4 down the back of the tank) and another canister filter on the 4th. I'm going to eventually figure out a feeding mechanism that I can plug into the 4th instead to completely automate my feeding where the filters shut off to keep from sucking uneaten food into the filter & wasting it then the feeder kicks in the food. Either way, this is a great device and normally Z-Wave devices go for about $30 each so to get four separately controlled outlets for $50 is a VERY good deal.

Rep'd & thumbs up for a really good deal.

Outlets run you about $30 each (slightly less on deals here and there) so to get four you would pay $120 which is quite a bit more. Read my post about being able to control each of the 4 Z-Wave outlets in this strip separately because that's how they show up on your smart home controller.... 4 separate devices you can control.

This siren is also available in the $83 premium kit from Amazon with a bunch of other stuff.

The same premium kit is being reported on clearance for $50 in some Home Depots which would be an awesome deal ofcourse:

No they don't. I got mine or $17 each. So not that much more than this strip. As I said, you can monitor each outlet separately that way. Does this strip give you power readings for each of those 4 switchable outlets or just one reading for the whole strip?

The common price for a Z-Wave outlet is $30-$35. If you have a link to where I can buy them for $17 each RIGHT NOW... feel free to link us. Too often people talk about 'a deal they got once' that can't be replicated now as if you can go buy it right now which is rarely the case which makes it an unfair comparison.

you're not understanding my question

I am not asking how to physically do this on any given hub.

I am asking for the "user case scenario" in which you would leverage it. I.e. what is the business case and under what conditions would you differentiate the "positive alert" against a false alert
