A great entry device for Kodi. There is many other devices that are better but they cost more. I own several boxes including AFTV, AFStick, Rpi,and Nvidia Shield. Each has pluses and draw backs but for a simple starter box to see if you want to invest more a Nexus is fine.
Kodi runs great on these and I have been using Kodi/xbmc for many years and have cut the cable for more then 16 months. I run a FB support group for kodi of 10k users and an admin on Noobsandnerds.com. If you need advice feel free to pm me and I will get back to you asap.
BTW Kodi is great but it has a learning curve and takes some work to keep current.
Again for 50 bucks worth a test run for ppl that are curious.

I wish the remotes would drop in price some. What cheaper remotes work?

Got one a few weeks back. Didn't realize it doesn't do multi channel audio. Surprised at that omission. Yes Kodi can be installed.

I like both of mine, but if they don't announce a second gen of this by the time Google i/o 2016 rolls around, I'm going to start questioning their commitment to the Android TV platform. I'd love to see OnHub and Android TV get some real smart home integration like the Amazon Echo.

Yes! It's probably the main reason people buy this.

I'm not sure which generic bluetooth remotes work best, but I know you can connect a mini bluetooth wireless keyboard and have the same functionality as the remote. I believe the mapped buttons from the original remote are the arrow keys, enter, backspace (or maybe Esc) and Home.

I use this one [amazon.com], because I wanted backlit keys. It's good, but the micro-LED that indicates bluetooth connection is so bright that I had to open up the unit and put a piece of electrical tape in front of it to block out most of the light.
I would have preferred one with the trackpad in the middle like this [amazon.com], but the reviews scared me off.
