This is the HD version that will stream over Wi-Fi and HD to tablets.

Live TV can be viewed with our own HDHomeRun View app (which is supported on Windows, Mac, Linux, PC or Android devices such as phones, tablets, Amazon branded media devices and Android TV) or it can be viewed on any client device that supports our Kodi/ XBMC Add-On. Additionally you can record, pause, rewind and schedule favorite shows using popular compatible DVR software like Windows Media Center, Elgato EyeTV and Myth TV.

I wish it would hit that $90 mark again, but this is the cheapest I've seen it in awhile, that wasn't the standard or the cable version.

I wanted one of these about 6 months ago when the supply was low but did a bunch of reading and found out the fan in these can be noisy or not efficient enough and make the box overheat (this also could be caused by owners not providing adequate airflow).

I'm pretty happy with the non-transcoding HDHR4-2US and waiting to see it drop to $50ish again to buy a 2nd

I really don't know what is going on with these things. Why in the world have they been so expensive lately? No alternatives, I guess?

Same here. Maybe to fund their DVR startup project to replace WMC?

I had a used - like new connect ordered from Amazon for $67.92... still hadn't shipped since Monday. decided to do this instead. more expensive, but the transcoding would be nice, even with an AC router. I imagine the Channels Apple TV App will work better with the transcoding.

Maybe. I would never buy such a thing, especially since there is a monthly fee and it can be done for free/close to free with Kodi, but maybe others want it for Plex.

I'm in the same boat. My apartment had a comcast cable contract for the whole building (free cable for me) but ownership changed and it was canceled. I've been very happy with the HDHomeRun Prime, but now looking to pick up Connect or Extend for OTA but they've been so expensive! I ended up grabbing an xbox one TV tuner in the hopes that the rumored DVR feature actually gets implemented. If the Connect drops to the $50 price range again, I'll probably pick it up.

Just bought two of these (me and brother-in-law) from Newegg for $116 a piece. They have a 2+ discount on them (free shipping, no tax in Iowa). I really like it so far. I use it with a desktop running NextPVR, MCEBuddy, and Plex. I already had the HDHR3-US and this brings me to 4 tuners. I also have 2 nexus players that can stream live from this. One is hardwired with gigabit ethernet and the other is on a 5GHz wireless. I haven't noticed the fan noise (quieter than the desktop fans). The HD Homerun app is only $1 (single Google account) for phone, tablet, and nexus players. I don't have any complaints so far.

I bought one of these a few months ago thinking that I could set up my Android box to record basic cable channels (which I was getting from an HD antenna) but after spending several days puzzling through it, I found out that I needed a cable card. I called up RCN asking for a cable card (sounds like some people are able to rent them for $2/mo) and they said they would not rent it to me, cable cards are only for subscribers and in order to get a cable card I would have to purchase a basic cable package for $10/mo. but doesn't that totally undermine the whole point of getting an HD antenna in the first place????

You bought the Prime, not the Connect/Extend. Prime is for cable subscribers that don't want to rent a DVR from their provider.
