Thread Details

I was trying to find a historical chart or some sort of projected costs as to when would be best to buy tickets. Plan to leave April 2nd-4th and return April 15th. Been checking the travel sites but don't know exactly what would be considered a good price. Under $500?

This is for two adults, LAX to Honolulu, around the 8th go to Lihue, then on the 15th back to LAX.
Also, what are the cheapest options of getting to and from the LAX airport back to Costa Mesa/Newport Beach area?
Please help, thanks!

I don't think any airline operating out of SNA goes to Hawaii. That is rather difficult, as no website has a historical chart which you ask (There would be so many variables needed to have something like it). Kayak does have a chart indicating price patterns and a recommendation to buy or hold on. Check Virgin America, they launch new routes to Hawaii and have introductory fares though I am not sure if the flights commence for the days you are searching for. I wouldn't hold off on buying tickets either, price will move up as the flight dates approach. To get to LAX, I would recommend Uber/Lyft. You can get a discount code if you haven't used the service before. If you are really trying to save every dollar, you could take Uber/Lyft to Union Station and take the Flyaway bus to LAX. Still, missing a flight is not something to risk. If possible, have a friend take you and give them some money for their gas/time.

Hands down, without question by a huge margin, I recommend getting the Bank of America Alaska Airlines card. Alaska flies to Honolulu out of LAX and SAN

Does have a $75 annual fee but also comes with 1 companion pass for $125 on any route they fly. So if you buy 1 adult ticket for $800, you can buy the second one for $125. Add in the $75 annual fee, and your total cost would be $1,000, or $500 per ticket. No blackout dates, so you can go in high season as well.

Here are more details on the companion pass:

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. As far as the LAX goes, what's a good price to aim for? This morning Hawaiian Airlines has each ticket at $480!
And is there a particularly better car rental company or website for Hawaii?

Pulled the trigger on $480, cheapest we saw over the past 6 weeks. Got that price directly from Hawaiian Airlines website and %0.7 cash back from Mypoints.
I also joined HA for free and there is a $10 reduction per checked bag on the inter-island flight.
Now, to find the cheapest car rental!

I use costco travel to rent my cars 90% of the time. Other good ones are autoslash and the chase.com travel portal if you have a chase credit card.

If you plan on going to hawaii again, get the british air credit card. It has a 100k sign up bonus (50k after 2k spend, 25k after 10k spend, and 25k after 20k spend 1st year).

You can book RT tix to hawaii on AS or AA for 25k roundtrip british air avios.

Better deal than alaska air.

use costco to lock down a price...then casually search for any cheaper option and rebook.

AAA, expedia, priceline etc.

My #1 source for flights and etc is Expedia. I recommend you sign up for the email notifications for deals. They are absolute necessity if you travel often because they provide daily deals and etc. I got flights 10% cheaper on Expedia vs the usual.

If you are flying out of Los Angeles (LAX Airport) for business or family trip, getting to LAX Airport can be a mission. My boss had me use Uber and i felt like i was being driven around by some taxi driver instead of a quality car service. Now we use a local tow-car service for rides to from LAX airport. If you interested Famous Limo Service
