I see no reason to not just get the cheapest option. I have the old Anova that doesn't have bluetooth or wifi or anything. I program the temp on its own lcd screen. I see no benefit to using your phone to input the temp and time. All the machine does is heat and circulate water. The magnet on the chef steps would be nice, but not really worth any more.

Save your $$$ until the ChefSteps gizmo releases. Will be easier to put into a cooler and seal completely.

doubt i'd ever use it in a cooler... the reason I like that one is you can use it in shorter pot.

Waiting for the "just use a slow cooker" and "OMG you're cooking in plastic and poisoning your family" crowd.

It looks like the pre-order for it is $229. Is it worth $90 more than the Anova?

From looking at it, the big difference seems to be a better app and that the Joule just sits (magnetically) on the bottom of your pot instead of having to be mounted to the side (I think)

So barring someone who actually knows what they are talking about, I would say the question is: do you have a pot that is already Anova compatible and if not, do you think you can get one for under 90 bucks? Similarly, how often do you think you'll be preheating the pot while you are driving home from work?

Is the connectivity for these just so you can communicate with the device using your phone? I'm just curious if there is any other use for the bluetooth/wifi other than that.
