Searching for a super cheap international postage / shipping solution to ship from US to UK.

I am based in the UK and I am slickdeals MAD!! I come to this site all the time to look at all the great deals here. Loving IT!
I have a brother in the US based in Houston TX who I can get to buy this stuff for me or I could use his address to ship stuff directly to him. I need a way to post stuff from Houston to London UK on a regular basis. It seems the only options available to my brother is USPS which I personally think is a shambles considering how much they charge for international shipments.
I have done some research but almost always come to websites offering virtual addresses in the US with a forwarding service to the UK. They can charge an arm and a leg on storage and forwarding fees. I dont need that service, I already have an address in Houston I can use. I only need to find a good service other than USPS, Fedex, UPS or DHL which all charge extortionate fees for international deliveries from the US.
The idea is to get a few things shipped at a time when I have enough to warrant a single shipment. For instance, over a few weeks I have bought and accumalated about 5 things that I saw deals for on slickdeals. I would like to box them up into a single shipment, should weight about 9 or 10lbs and get it shipped over.
Hope this all makes sense.
In a nutshell, all I am looking for is a cheap international courier service.
Any advice, hints, tips etc?

Maybe a dirigible?
you aren't going to get anything cheap since you aren't using any service in bulk. not to mention you are subject to an import VAT, i think unless you plan to dodge the VAT.

Zoe Moon has experience with this, and answered, I imagine if anyone here could help point you in the direction of your quarry, it'd be her.
Yes, that's a mixed metaphor, I don't want to have a three way with a unicorn, even if it's got a sweet rack and digs chicks.
I have put up a similar post on ebay forums to see if there is someone there who could help as there are likely thousands of sellers who sell and ship internationally.
It's a bit strange as in a country as tiny as the UK I can find hundreds of sites that compare international shipping rates and I cannot find even one in the US.
Weird.
Anyhoo, keep em howlers coming, could use this thread being in the forefront

I asked DH about the VAT last night as he shipped a lot of stuff from the US to the UK before we ever met. He said if it's a small box and if you don't do it very often, you can probably get away with not paying the VAT but if it's a large box they will definitely hit you with the VAT. He got a warning one time, on his third small box in a years time.
