Win 10 corrupted, need to reinstall OS. Win10 again or back to Win7?

I just experienced the dreaded Windows 10 stuck on startup screen issue (circling dots freeze) after a shut down and reboot. I have tried going back to a restore point, clean reboot, disabling video card, windows startup fix, windows repair from a fresh Win10 OS copy on USB drive, windows reset and a few other things. No dice. I called the local computer repair shop and he said that at this point he would back up my files and reinstall the OS. I dont need him to do that, I can do that myself. I have everything backed up (both on the cloud and a Norton backup to an extra external hard drive (just dont have a disk image DOH)).

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium disk and also the USB copy Windows 10. At this point I am conflicted about what to install. Either one would have to wipe the HD I believe. The tech guy says Windows 7 all the way. He had nothing good to say about Windows 10. Id love some other opinions.

This is an older computer than runs great. Dell Optiplex 745, Quad core Q6700 processor, 1TB WD Blue HardDrive, 6 Gigs RAM, small MSI video card. Used for basic computing and Minecraft. Am I better off with Windows 7 on this hardware and forget about Windows 10?

Personally, I'd go with 10. Have updated a bunch of machines and really don't see why not. It seems to run better on some older hardware IMO. I wonder if you had an issue with one of the recent update that went out.. You may want to make a new usb .iso on a different computer if you have an old one so that the updates are included; https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../windows10

Win10 will be the future whether you like it or not. if you're still corrupted maybe it's your HDD or some other external issue?

try installing on a junker 100gb spare drive and see if that fixes it.

have you already activated windows 10 on the hardware? if yes, id probably stick with it - if not, I would probably stay with 7 for a while longer

U should stick on win 10. The GUI and icon are elegant and more beautiful than win 7. And above all It runs faster and smoother Smilie. Try it again mate

not only that but if win10 is activated via win7 upgrade, OP won't be able to activate win7 with the old (upgraded) license, either.

You can recover window 10 ,

Window 10 is free if you have a licensed window 7 , You just update from window 7 to win 10

Thanks for all the feedback! Lots of validation for my original move to Win10. But for whatever reason Win10 just would not recover, in spite of all of its options to do so. I backup to the cloud and an external hard drive so I am not freaking out about my files thank goodness. Also I have a Win7 cd as well as a Win10 creation tool saved to on a USB drive. So its good to have options.

The poor local tech guy has zero love for Windows 10. I like it well enough until the recent failure.
