This is a great deal. I'm using JBL for the past 9 years. Is this a new item btw?

Can anyone who owns this confirm whether that USB port on the back is powered? (Quick Google search suggests that it is.)

If it is, this would be killer for Chromecast Audio.

the quick start guide seems to imply that. says you can charge iPhone, iPod, and iPad. so, i'm sure enough to drive a CC audio (my reason for wanting this also)

if it's anything like the one I got off meh.com then yes. I use the USB port for my charge cable to my Apple Watch. works flawlessly

Does anyone know if this will work as an alarm, i.e. if I connect my phone and set an alarm to wake me up in the morning with a certain song, will it power on and play through the speaker?

I know that works with I devices. but if you are using aux in , at least on my onbeat venues, there is no auto on.

As someone who doesn't know much about these, I'm super confused why this is so expensive. Having read the product description it looks like it just works like any other $50 iHome. I am an iPhone owner and am interested in picking up a dock but just don't understand why this one is so expensive. Am I missing something?

Looks like it charges and plays music (via a few methods) and operates as an alarm clock/radio. Anything beyond that to justify the normal $400 price point (and even the current $125 price)?

now that I think about it auto on works with Bluetooth I believe so if it stayed paired I think music would start playing assuming you setup your phone to do that.

yes it's a bit inflated at 500, probably is closer to 250 or 300. its not ihome crap quality though. this is a well engineered 50 watts of quality sound. huge difference.
