Asuswrt is based on Tomato. Asuswrt-merlin adds many features.

A potato with a couple of wires stuck in it works better than the xfinity router.

This is an exceptional router. It should provide top level performance for you. It can be flashed with third party firmware like Merlin and Tomato which makes it an elite router. The only drawback is that it does not support AC which most don't even need yet.

This is close to refurb pricing. I am even considering it.

This is a steal. I've had mine for something like 2 years with virtually no issues.

I won't buy a cheap mouse or keyboard at micro center. one near me is a detective agency returns department. long line, they investigate every little detail. extremely annoying.

Unless you have AC devices, N is fine for 99.5% of folks

I'd rather spend $20 more and get an AC refurb

Returned few refurb AC router. Before AC, those refurb ASUS router just work as good as new one. That got changed on AC wifi asus router world. I got crazily dropped on 2.4G antenna or speed just won't sustain stable. Brand new one just has no issue. It was the AC-66U. I end up going all the way up to AC-68U around $150 one.
I will stay away from refurb AC wireless router on.
