The Netgear Switch has a student discounted price of $49.99. EMCEGGL25 drops the price by $27.49, and with the $10 rebate, it drops down to $12.50 . That's very cheap for an 8-port managed gigabit switch. Get on it if you have a student discount. Free shipping and returns with Shoprunner or Newegg Premier on this item. Limit 1 rebate per household.

I currently have a combo wifi router/cable modem from Motorola (not AC), can I just plug this router in? would it interfere with the wifi signal coming from the combo router/modem?

You'll need to go into you modem/router and disable the router function and/or DHCP, its simple stuff. This is a great router.

Alternatively you could put this router into AP mode. That's probably the easist solution if you are just looking to extend your wifi range. They shouldn't interfere with each other much. Worse case you can put them on different channels but I wouldn't worry about it.

Wow, I was really considering this until I started reading reviews. I've heard stories of Asus having bad suport but holy cow they sound terrible to work with. Seems there are way too many people saying this has intermittent connection and overheating issues. Plus it's at least 4 years old. Wireless AC was in it infancy then. I'm going to pass and stick with my linksys wrt-160n with ddwrt a while longer. I just don't understand how Asus has gotten such a good name among tech enthuisist when their support is so terrible.

What tech enthusiast uses any company's tech support anyway? Those idiots never know anything.
