An updated version of the original film, titled Ghost in the Shell 2.0 was made in celebration for the release of The Sky Crawlers anime in 2008. The Ghost in the Shell 2.0 release features replacements of the original animations with the latest digital film and animation technologies, such as 3D-CGI. It includes a new opening, digital screens and holographic displays, and omits several brief scenes.

The original soundtrack was also re-arranged and re-recorded. Kenji Kawai remixed the Version 2.0 soundtrack in 6.1 Channel Surround. Randy Thom of Skywalker Sound reprised his role as sound designer, having worked previously on Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. In the new soundtrack, the Japanese voice dialogue was also re-recorded, with some variation from the original script to modernize the speech. Yoshiko Sakakibara replaced Iemasa Kayumi as the voice of the Puppet Master.[11

Great movie and way ahead of it's time. Hell it's more relevant today than ever. I also recommend the series.

The TV series Ghost in the Shell SAC is way better than the movies. The main problem with the movies is that you can't fit all of the themes from the manga in a little over an hour. It's a lot easier trying to do this with a whole TV season instead. I didn't like either movie but I'm a big fan of both the comics and the TV show.

but there are so many; the movies, arise, stand alone complex, then there was another after that. I'd feel incomplete if I hadn't seen them all. This is a great deal.

IMO you're much better off spending the extra $1.50 or so and getting the 25th anniversary edition instead. They made a few questionable changes in this release.

I was about to go after the 25th Anniversary, but seeing that the English subtitles for that version are a hacked job I'll get this one to tide me over until the subtitles are fixed on the 25th Anniversary. Yes, that is the deal breaker for me. It's not the same thing, but the "dubtitles" on Disney's release of Miyazaki's Laputa: Castle in the Sky definitely was distracting and soured my appreciation of the film just a bit. Sad that big companies can't get something right that fansubbers worldwide have been doing right consistently.

Yes, mostly TV shows though which are really good. Even the character designs are better in the TV show vs the movies. The only thing the movies are better at are fancy visual effects due to the bigger budget. Yeah it is still a deal for the movies. It doesn't hurt to check them out to compare at the very least.
