Votes counted here: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=83731738&postcount=29

Lets turn the old tired top 10 lists into a thread game where I will tally all the votes in a month.

RULES
• Voting ends on April 7th 2016. You can edit/change your lists as much as possible, I will not count votes until the end date!
• If a game's DLC has scrolling credits, it gets its own position in the list. Game groupings will be broken up into descending release order.
• Do not put story spoilers in your explanations.
• Copy the list format below:
Quote :
1. [+10 pt] GAME HERE
Mandatory: Explain why you chose your #1 game.
2. [+9 pt] GAME HERE
Optional: You can add more explanations for the rest of the games if you want.
3. [+8 pt] GAME HERE
4. [+7 pt] GAME HERE
5. [+6 pt] GAME HERE
6. [+5 pt] GAME HERE
7. [+4 pt] GAME HERE
8. [+3 pt] GAME HERE
9. [+2 pt] GAME HERE
10. [+1 pt] GAME HERE

I'll go first. I have been gaming since the 90s... started out with Super Mario Bros. on NES and slowly upgrading into each console generation thereafter. I do not believe "time of addiction" means a game is automatically better (eg. heroin is not a better drug than penicillin).

1. [+10 pt] The Last of Us
The drama is unparalleled even against movies; every character is believable. Enemy encounters are endlessly fun with its visceral combat... when you cannot stealth past the lifelike AI. The act of running by itself is more satisfying than any other game's running; though it is very therapeutic to walk and gawk at the gorgeous environments. And set-pieces do not need an airplane exploding to be the most memorable.
2. [+9 pt] God of War III
3. [+8 pt] Halo: Combat Evolved
4. [+7 pt] Halo 2
5. [+6 pt] Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The only CoD campaign that I completed in one sitting.
6. [+5 pt] The Last of Us - Left Behind
7. [+4 pt] Alien: Isolation
The true sequel to Alien. Flickering CRT monitors are creepy as hell in space.
8. [+3 pt] Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction
The only SC campaign I could complete. No need to memorize all the guard patterns when you can bash-in the doors on guards. And fun missions made just for co-op.
9. [+2 pt] Burnout 3: Takedown
The best way to release pent-up anger: going 200mph. But the cheap rubber-banding makes you angrier so you play longer (clever developers)!
10. [+1 pt] Batman: Arkham Asylum
A spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series.

A revised list for next year's edition.

1. The Last of Us
2. Halo: Combat Evolved
3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
4. Halo 2
5. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction
6. Alien: Isolation
7. The Last of Us - Left Behind
8. Inside
9. God of War III
10. Burnout 3: Takedown
11. Company of Heroes

This is an initial list and I reserve the right to change it as I remember games that I totally forgot, which will inevitably happen..

1. [+10 pt] The Last of Us
For me, there has never been a game that engaged me quite like TLOU. I would wake up early in the morning before work to get a few more minutes in. The story was gripping and devastating, the environments detailed and outstanding, the soundtrack beautiful and haunting, the voice acting top-notch, and the gameplay near-perfect.
2. [+9 pt] Portal 2. The ungodly amount of time I've spent in this wonderful, playful universe is some of the best time I've ever spent on a game. I absolutely love the humor and deep gameplay and story of this series.
3. [+8 pt] Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
4. [+7 pt] Rock Band 2. I know I don't need to explain this one, but the amount of hours and practice I put into this game has shaped my personal musical journey. I would have never become a drummer if not for this game.
5. [+6 pt] Journey
6. [+5 pt] Guacamelee
7. [+4 pt] Killzone 2
8. [+3 pt] Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
9. [+2 pt] Metal Gear Solid
10. [+1 pt] LittleBigPlanet

1. [+10 pt] Ultima Online
Greatest online game ever created. Complete freedom. Full loot & PVP. Epic dungeons. Lots of politics between guilds. Tons of player run events. Defined online gaming before it took a step backward.
2. [+9 pt] Counter-Strike – Defined competitive FPS
3. [+8 pt] Quake 3 + Rocket Arena
4. [+7 pt] Rocket League
5. [+6 pt] iRacing
6. [+5 pt] Fallout
7. [+4 pt] X-Com Apocalypse – Going against the grain with this one, despite all of its issues I enjoyed this one more than the original
8. [+3 pt] Twisted Metal 2
9. [+2 pt] Neocron
10. [+1 pt] Alien Isolation

Honorable mentions: World of Warcraft, Dead Space, Resident Evil, Goldeneye 007, God of War 2, FIFA, NFS: Underground, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: NV, Fallout 4, Skyrim, The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle. Halo

1. [+10 pt] Dark Souls
Amazing game with the whole Metroidvania vibe and a solid control setup. Most time I have spent on a game in the last several Gens.
2. [+9 pt] Shadow of the Colossus
3. [+8 pt] The Last of Us
4. [+7 pt] Demon's Souls
5. [+6 pt] Neir
6. [+5 pt] Chrono Trigger - Mostly due to the massive amount of time I spent on this as a kid.
7. [+4 pt] Prince of Persia - Warrior Within
8. [+3 pt] Fallout 2
9. [+2 pt] Kotor
10. [+1 pt] Baldurs Gate 2

I wanted Just Cause 2/3 and Split/Second to be in there somewhere but I guess they are not in my top 10.

No problem! I will not be counting votes until April 7th.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
This would of been in my top 10 a few years ago, but replaying it has soured me on the whole Uncharted franchise. I wish ND was making TLoU2 instead of U4.

The Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy (they are all one game as far as I see it)
Unfortunately, I will break-up any "game-groupings" into descending separate positions (in chronological release order) if you do not update your list by April 7th. ie: What happens if someone else only prefers the first PoP and despises the rest? Thanks.

I've played through UC2 twice and enjoyed it quite a lot both times.

Well then they would simply be wrong. Updated either way. Tough call between 2 and 3 but I think 2 wins out.

Diablo 2 was close but Blizzard has tainted all good memories of the Warcraft series with the WoW, Diablo and StarCraft money grabs they have been working at for the last decade.

I haven't liked any RTS since Homeworld or Myth. They would be in my top 20 probably though. I am just not a huge RTS fan.

Company of Heroes is in my top 20. I did play a lot of Command & Conquer Generals (and its expansion), but that's a game I actually regret playing since I just spent a ridiculous amount of time making my base pretty and building up a massive tank or jet force to "compstomp" the AI with.

The only Blizzard game I liked was The Lost Vikings co-op game. Rented that for a week and forgot about it until now.

Thanks. PoP:WW is one of those games I do regret not playing when it released... do the controls hold-up in 2016? I do hope Ubisoft makes another PoP game in that style (not like the ones released on last-gen).

I now call the franchise "Nathan Drake's Selfish Adventures" among friends. The train boss fight is broken in U2 and the new enemy types at the tail-end of U2 are annoying bullet sponges if you don't have a specific weapon (avoiding spoilers for a reason).

10 games requires too much thought and effort. Dark souls 1 is my vote.
