Can i put my WD portable my passport drive into my laptop? Pics.

Hi

I cracked the case open on my WD portable my passport drive - it's a 2.5" SATA. See pic. However it looks like the USB port on the drive is built in - will this USB port prohibit me from having it work on my HP pavillon laptop?

what's the opposite side look like? Is the USB a "bolt on" to normal SATA/power ports on the HDD?

Whoops nope.... supposedly it has a native uUSB port. [storageforum.net] Odd.

That is not the normal SATA connector, so no it will not work.

WD (and others) started changing the connections in their externals to prevent users from removing the drive. I personally stopped buying models that do this.
