Catalina info-What are shelf, sale, price plus prices? credit couponmami
  • There 3 prices at SR:
    • 1. Shelf, the price on the sticker on the shelf
    • 2. Sale, the price of the item on sale, no price plus card needed to get the sale price
    • 3. Price Plus price, card needed to get the item at that price (usually a limit of 4 per variety or must by 2 or 4 offers and so forth)
  • When calculating which prices to use to obtain a oyno cat (pay $$, get $):
  • The only time you can really calculate a "spread" is if the item is on price plus discount, then it would be calculated on the pre price plus price (which would either be the sale price or the shelf price, the lesser of the two). Usually items on Price Plus discount are also on sale from their regular shelf price, and then discounted further by use of your card. So you would have to use the pre price plus card price which is usually the sale price when calculating to obtain a $$ wyb $ CAT.
  • If the item is on sale, and you don't need a price plus card to get the sale price, then you would use the sale price in your calculations.
  • How to tell the difference when looking in the ad:
  • Sale - When looking in the ad, if there is NO price plus card and in a red circle/starburst it says "Save $.$$" or "1/2 price".
  • Price Plus price - When looking in the ad, if there is a price plus card icon and in a square with red on top and white on the bottom it says "you save $.$$", then the item is on Price Plus discount.
  • Lastly, you could always ring a transaction without scanning your card, to ensure that the total meets the minimum needed to receive a $when you buy $$ CAT. Then scan your card and your coupons

I don't get this... does this work at Shoprite too... you mention pathmark.
Only at Pathmark & A&P, not at SR. Like I said, PM thread is a ghost town, doubted anyone here (or anyone at all) goes onto the PM thread, so just an fyi of you have a PM or A&P.

Are the Dawn Hand Renewal, Power Clean, Bleach Alternative or Oxi included in the $1.88 price? It says any 19-24 oz so I assume yes. My 10/28 P&G has the above specified on a coupon as well as any 2 Dawn (both $1/2). I was going to try the following:

8 Dawn (at least 2 varieties) $1.88 ($3.39) = $15.04 ($27.12)
4 $1/2 Dawn coupons (-$4)
==$11.04
get $10 off a $10 GC CAT

I'm reluctant to participate in this deal due to all the issues people have been reporting but I do actually need dish soap and Dawn is my preferred brand. :/

I'm getting the "gift card headache" which has been going around. I do shop A&P, but now am worried about the deal not working there--their CS is horrible. But in reading your post #7386, I am a bit confused. What is the activation fee for the $500 card? And why do I need to buy a $100 card first? I was thinking to just buy the $500 card and pay $5.95--that would be a $54.05 MM (not $44.05 as you said). Where am I going wrong? Then, of course, I'd have to spend the $60 Cats at A&P somehow (if they print out). Hopefully, I can pay with a credit card. Don't usually carry around that much cash.

I would love to do this at A&P also, but the closest one 14 miles away does NOT accept CC payment for GC. I called them twice to ask. So I am skipping. I can go get the cash but its such a pain.

Oh well....

Understand why some don't accept credit cards: It's a great way to cover your tracks with a stolen credit card. It's well known that thieves use stolen credit cards to purchase gift cards & phone cards, then turn around and sell them on EBay to convert them to cash. Much easier than buying some other goods and trying to "fence" them.

I also wanted to put my 2¢ in about the "Redeemable at" and "Redeemable only at" coupons. I thought there were two types of coupons: Store and Manufacturer. I would think Manufacturer coupons were good anywhere. These latest Redeemable at Walmart coupons are Manu coupons, so we should be good (unless we're wrong!)

I understand the fraud on the card part, but at some of these stores ( not A&P for me, but for example SR here) I am a regular shopper there since they opened. At my SR for a $100 GC you have to show ID if you are paying with a CC.

I know you can sell the cards somewhat easily, but I find it ridiculous that I can go in and buy $500 worth of pricey razors and other desired items that I could easily sell on Ebay or on the street and no one would say a word or as for an ID.

Just makes no sense to me.

It's really simple, idk if I can make it any simpler for you - buy a $500 gc, it costs $505.95, with the extra $5.95 being the activation fee they charge. You don't have to buy a $100 gc first, or ever - I was just pointing out that the offer also gives cats for lesser gc amounts than $500. It's in their ads if you want to read the terms. If no cats print, show them their own ad at the cs desk and tell them to print them for you. Is it really a struggle to spend $60 at the grocery store?
my math was off - 60-5.95 makes it a $54.05 mm.

I don't get the logic here at all - so the store is ok taking a cc as payment for say $500 in cigarettes or liquor, or steaks, or whatever, all of which are completely untraceable once they leave the store, and can easily be converted to cash by selling them - and really, wth is the difference to the store what the purchaser does with the stuff, the store is out the $$ if the charge is declined (which it wouldn't be, since they'd know instantly before the goods leave the store) - but, they have an issue with gc purchase, even though the issuer could very easily track any purchases made with that gc after it's left the store or shut it down, long before it was sold on ebay. It's nothing more than irrational paranoia on the part of stores that don't understand the concept of cc transactions and how gc's work.

I agree. The only thing the store sells that could allow them some avenue of recourse if the payment turned out to be fraudulent would be gc's. It's the one thing they should be ok taking cc payments for.

I bought the $500 Visa GC today at Pathmark and the activation fee was $5.95. . I haven't heard any reports of it working right at A&P but it works fine at PM and I was able to use a Credit card to pay. Hopiing to go back tomorrow

I went to SR tonight and did the OM and Cracker Barrel again. Ran out of the $1/1 CB so I used 2 $1/2 and the 4 of the $1/1 OM. Got back the $10 GC cat and the $3 OM so only $2.96 after cats, I bought 4 20 packs of Diet Coke and got the cat also. Not the greatest price but we are low on soda.

my math was off - 60-5.95 makes it a $54.05 mm.

Thanks for your reply. The math error was what threw me off. I knew from the ads that one could buy $100, $200, etc. I did not know what the activation fee was for the larger dollar amount. Apparently, it's $5.95 per card irrespective of the amount for $100 and up value cards. Unfortunately, their CS is just clueless at the store I go to--and they probably wouldn't know how to print out a Catalina even if they had the codes. And if I can't pay with a CC--I don't think I would bother. As far as spending $60--well, I'm a recent widow and don't buy anywhere near as much as some others, so that explains why $60 net (after coupons and discounts) is quite a lot for me. Anyway, I'll check it all out tomorrow when I will be going to A&P for a few items. Thanks again.

I have not done this, but the $60 if it works correctly, is 3 $20 CATS, but you could end up with it working wrong and a $60 RC.

I had $51 to spendyesterday in CATS at GiantPA and I got mostly frozen chicken and a little bit of meat. Most of it on sale, but honestly it was not that much. I got mostly Perdue Simply Smart (on sale) and low fat chicken breast and such.

I know its just you, but if you focus on non coupon items like meat, chicken and things you rarely find a coupon for, you would be surprised how little $60 will get you.

Just redeemed my first $10 SR gift card cat. The CS had no clue, and the FEM said I needed to get a gift card more than $10. I showed them the ad that says get a $10 SR gc and I got a look like I was trying to rob the place. You would think that someone else would have done this deal by now since it is Thursday.

Good luck in dealing with A&P. Worst cs ever, at least that's how it was before all the stores around me closed. Hmmm, ya think maybe the poor cs led to the store closings? I sure do.

Where you finding the 20 packs of Coke? I looked in the soda aisle at my store but I can't find them.

As far as spending $60--well, I'm a recent widow and don't buy anywhere near as much as some others, so that explains why $60 net (after coupons and discounts) is quite a lot for me. Anyway, I'll check it all out tomorrow when I will be going to A&P for a few items. Thanks again.
I'm sorry for your loss hug

But in thinking $60 is a lot to spend with prices continuing to rise and deals becoming more scarce if you have room you could pick up non-perishables to keep your overall costs down. It's just me and a college aged daughter who isn't really home. I'm going to use the CATS to load up on laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper and my bodywash that there is never any really fantastic deals for. I didn't do the deal last year for the same reasons last year but I'm all in this time Big Grin

FYI, you can load $11 on a SR gift card. If the cust service person balks at the $10, rather than waste 15 minutes of your time getting it "fixed" by a higher up, just say, ok put $11 on it, pay $1 oop and be on your way. You'll get your $1 back when you redeem the GC and it's certainly worth $1 ( to me anyway) to avoid the hassle/wasted time.
