"Sponsored" deals

Been a member on here now for 11 years and have always loved SD. I don't post much because of the trolls and flamers so it takes a lot to get me going. That being said, I think SD needs to be transparent (like FB) and somehow let us know when they are receiving any financial incentive or revenue from posting deals. The FP deals of credit cards or protein are getting old.

Just my two cents.

HI,

We never FP or even post deals for money. They have to be great deals.
The community votes those deals up to a place where the Deal Editors look at them and evaluate them on merit alone.

That said, it's no secret that we get small amounts of commissions of of many deals and merchants. but if the deals don't warrant FP they don't make it there regardless.

The magazine deals are an example: http://slickdeals.net/f/8556906-discountmags-employee-discount-magazine-sale-mens-health-4-66-yr-self-4-69-yr-runners-world-5-60-yr-dwell-4-79-yr-wired-4-51-yr-popular-science-4-55-yr-automobile-4-5

They appear to be sponsored. They are front page each time they are posted and normally have very few votes or replies. Other deals can be more popular and never make front page.

This is an example recent deal with 98% positive, 99 thumbs up and 14,000+ view but not front page:

SD must get a better commissions from Brisar's magazine posting than benjaminapp-co

Those magazine deals seem to go over very well with slickdeals members. Once something has a track record of hitting FP often due to so many votes and comments etc.. we tend to FP them a little sooner than say.. some new item that we're unsure of.

I can ask the deal editor team why they haven't FPd that one but for future deals you can mod alert a deal like this and bring it to their attention in case they missed it among the thousands of deals. while we try to catch them all...some do get missed.
And there are varying reasons why some deals just don't make FP. But it's never commission based. We do keep those 2 departments (DEs and revenue building) separate for that reason.

Why is discountmags FP almost every time? http://slickdeals.net/f/8575130-motor-trend-magazine-just-3-per-year-when-you-buy-4-years?v=1
Deals get promoted to the frontpage based on price and on votes. It has the votes Smilie

The reason why i think the other deal you referenced did not get frontpaged, is because its from an unknown merchant. That spotify deal certainly seems like a good deal, but "benjaminapp.co" is certainly a new and unknown player, and part of our frontpage commitment is also trying our best to only post deals from reliable merchants.
