Thread Details

I am considering upgrading my router.
Read the reviews of the Amazon's top 10 bestseller
Also checked online for DD-WRT routers

Bottom like seems "good while lasted" for the best case scenario?
Criticism of bad Linksys customer support - and bad products
Netgear's 1 yt warranty is unusable without paying for support for a failure outside 90days and so on.

Is there a reliable router? What would u buy?
Does 802.11ac better than N+?

I bought a TP-Link Archer C5 based on the reviews at Small Net Builder:

I originally got a v1 model but when it kept locking up about once a day, they replaced it with a v2 and it's been working great ever since.

Yes, you can get higher bandwidth with 802.11AC. It depends on which flavor of .11AC you get (and that includes both your router / "access points" and what kind of interface you have in your computers), but I get about twice the throughput through my Archer C5 that I did on my previous .11N router / access point (at least for the devices that support .11AC).

What is the difference between C5 vs C50?

NETGEAR - AC1750 Dual-Band Wireless-AC Router with DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem

I had a basic cheapy router for a long time. Finally coughed up the money to buy this at best buy, and had them match a price i found on amazon for $173.

It's been well worth the price.
