Need a router with great signal in a difficult house

My house is very small. Somewhere between 1200 and 1400 square feet.

I have purchased router after router over the years and each time I purchase a router things get better but I am still getting random disconnects from the Wireless LAN. Connectivity to the WAN (internet) is always fine.

My house is unique in that whoever built this thing used "cellotex" (insulating wallboard with an R value of about 6) on the interior. I wonder if that is causing part of my issue.

The home is 1.5 stories e.g. someone converted the attic into tiny bedrooms.

My last purchase was a refurbished Cisco (Linksys) EA3500 router. I believe that was designed for a 3500 square foot home.

Things are not so bad with it, but I'd like something better.

I can hardly get a solid signal more than 10 feet outside of the house.

I have used third party tools to see who is using what channel etc and there is not a lot of traffic around here since I am in a rural area.

I have tried all channels and the disconnects persist.

I'll spend up to $200 for a router at this point. I don't want to be annoyed with repeaters etc.

Any router suggestions?

Thanks
