- Do not power on the phone with sim inside
- Click https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/ accept terms and click Continue
- Select "Non-AT&T Mobility customer"

Steps to do after submitting request to AT&T:
- Check your email and look for an email from AT&T device unlock department (order@ecom.wireless.att-mail.com)
- Open the email and click link in the email to confirm your request (that you previously submitted)
- Wait for your Unlock code to be delivered in email within 48 hrs
- Do not power on the phone with sim inside until you get your code then follow instructions below

- Use another carrier (non AT&T) SIM in device and power on, once prompted enter the device unlock code received from AT&T

You can't request an unlock from motorola? It worked on my sprint moto e. Also, most other carriers are bootloader locked so even if this was, I don't know if that's a big deal or not.

you cant get root access or install custom roms/kernels on the phone to improve performance

nope, only sprint, for some strange reason since they usually lock/cripple as well like with the lg stylo, allowed the bootloader to be locked.

oh how weird, then I guess it's best to get the sprint version since it has more bands. But the rom support on this device sucks. coming from all samsung phones where there are tons of roms this is just sad

One of the best bang for the buck, sub $100. phones. GF just bought one (At&t go phone) and it pulls in a better signal than her older Samsung. Google voice commands work very well, especially for nav. Solidly built phone.
