If you want to discuss the pros/cons of shopping at Wal-Mart do that here.

Let's try to stay focused on any great deals to be had when you combine a coupon with a regular-priced item. YYMV on the actual prices at Wal-Mart but they should be fairly close. If your store has an item with a very different regular price, please put it in the Wiki so we can compare the price variations to see if this is even worth it. We may as well not even post clearanced items because that is definitley going to be widely different per store.

There is no weekly ad to work with so we're going to have to add things from what we see when we are there. So please keep an eye out when you're at Wal-Mart next for any hot deals.

Wal-Mart accepts the following types of coupons (see guidelines below):
* Manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
* Free merchandise (or Buy-One-Get-One-Free) coupons
* Store coupons
* Pharmacy (Advertising and Promotional) coupons
* Internet coupons
* Soft drink container caps

The following are guidelines and limits:
* Wal-Mart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase.
* Coupons should have an expiration date and be presented within the valid dates. Wal-Mart will not accept expired coupons.
* Internet coupons should be legible and say "Manufacturer Coupon." There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and a scannable bar code.
* Only one coupon per item is permitted.
* Use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by Customer Service Manager.

***YMMV on internet coupons. Some stores won't take them at all, some only take 1 per transaction and others take as many as you have. If you run into any trouble you can try showing them a copy of their coupon policy, but there is still no guarantee they will take internet coupons. Click on "Wal-Mart Coupon Policy" above to see it on the actual Wal-Mart website.

Guide to Wal-Mart
  • Use the SCO (Self-Checkout) to avoid coupon scrutiny
  • You cannot get an overage at the SCO's
  • Go to a regular cashier if you plan on having overage
  • Go to a regular cashier if you have a bottle cap
  • You can only use $20 worth of coupons at SCO
  • You can use up to $40 worth of coupons at a regular check out (Without Manager Approval) - (You can use as many as you want with approval)
  • If your coupon doesn't register as being inserted in the coupon slot at the SCO then blow in the slot
  • Some SCO's are coded to only accept 1 of each coupon and will need cashier approval.
  • Some SCo's are coded to need cashier approval for coupons with a $3 or higher value.
Wal-Mart Price Guarantee
If an item rings up for more than the price on the shelf WalMart policy is to give you $3.00 off the price the item scans for. If the item is less than $3.00 you get it for FREE. One item per $3.00 discount. YMMV as some stores will just give you the price difference instead of $3.00 off
NO MORE PRICE GUARANTEE AS OF JUNE 2008

Our Ad Match Guarantee

En Español [walmartstores.com]
We’re committed to providing low prices every day. On everything. So if you find a lower advertised price on an identical product, tell us and we’ll match it. Right at the register.

We gladly match the price in the following types of ads:*
  • Buy one, get one free ads with a specified price
    • Example: Buy one for $2.49, get one free (BOGO)
  • Competitors' ads that feature a specific item for a specified price.
  • Preferred shopping card prices for specific items that are in a printed ad.
  • For fresh produce and meat items when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)
*The following are guidelines and limitations:
  • We will match any local competitor's advertised price.
  • We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor's ad.
  • Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.)
We DO NOT match the price in the following types of competitor ads:
  • Items that require a separate purchase to get the ad price
    • example: "Buy [item A] to get [item B] for $C"
  • Items with no actual price that require a purchase to get free product
    • example: "Buy both [items A & B] to get [item C] for free"
  • Items that require a purchase to get a competitors' gift card
    • example: "Buy [item A] to get a $B gift card
  • Buy one, get one free (BOGO) ads with no actual price given
  • Going out of business or closeout prices
  • Percentage off
    • example: "All mascara, 40% off"
  • Competitors' private label price promotions
We do not honor:
  • Ads when the actual price for items cannot be determined.
  • Internet pricing
  • Misprinted ad prices of other retailers
  • "Going out of business" sales or "close out" prices

It has come to our attention that an original intent of a manufacturer's coupon(s) has been compromised and it is being discussed on the slickdeals.net forums. Discussions of how to profit from a coupon mistake should not be discussed here. if you wish to discuss the coupon(s) mistake, please use another forum. Slickdeals.net does not condone discussions of how to perform, elude capture or profit from unethical and perhaps illegal activities. Any users caught creating multiple account(s) will be banned immediately, no exceptions.
  • Please do not ask (even in a covert way) for any coupon that has been scanned or discuss any coupon that is not used for it's intended purpose. This goes for ALL scanned - this is what ALTERED means. NO POSTING about CWS, "37000" coupons, SPICY, or DECODING list of coupons.

  • Users who do ask or discuss any coupon that is not used for its intended purpose will be subject to warnings. This is because we do not want to punish those who do legit deals by being forced to close this thread down.
Moderator Reminders
  1. Do not directly post to Ebay Auctions.
  2. It's considered self promotion because we don't have a way to verify if you are the seller or not.
  3. Mod Alert any fighting! We'd rather catch it in the beginning, versus going back 5 pages to see what happened.
  4. Do not discuss or promote unethical and/or illegal activities with coupons or GCs (ie using expired coupons, using fake coupons, etc.).
  5. Click here for how expired coupons will be handled on here. (Credit goes to kel_be). In other words they will be handled the same way as they do for the Target Thread.
How do I let someone know they've posted a no-no?
  • If you feel it would be beneficial and helpful to the thread as a whole, go ahead and post an answer. But if you need to correct someone on an etiquette issue or on coupon use, try PM'ing them first. That avoids embarrassment and negative posts. The mod's are watching our thread closely--we want to keep things helpful and pleasant.
  • Please do not ask (even in a covert way) for any coupon that has been scanned in or is not used for it's intented purpose. This goes for ALL scanned (from a scanner) manufacturer coupons. This is what ALTERED means. NO POSTING about "37000 coupons", SPICY, or DECODING list of coupons.

  • AC = After Coupon(s) (as in, "I used 4 JJ MFQ's and 3 AF ETQ's, so my total AC was $1.23.")
  • BC = Before Coupon(s) (as in, "My total BC was $56.78.")
  • HTH = Hope That Helps
  • J&J = Johnson's & Johnson's or Juicy Juice
  • MQ = Manufacturer's Coupon
  • OOP = Out of Pocket
  • PA = Price Adjustment
  • PM (first meaning) = Private Message
  • PM (second meaning) = Price Match
  • PP = Polly Pocket

Hi XXX,

Thank you for inquiring about our Ad Match Guarantee. You are correct in quoting this reference point in our policy: "Preferred shopping card prices for specific items that are in a printed ad." In this case we would honor the Ad Match price of $3.99 but not the $3 Register Reward as the shopping card price is $3.99. We do not honor any register rewards, my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thank you,

Toni
Personally I have never tried to PM 'reward' deals.

Sorry to change the direction of the discussion but does anyone know if the $7 Nature Made coupon provides overage at WM. The coupon says "Up to $7." I'm trying to figure out whether or not to use it for overage.

It's the one they mail to you for 500 points in their reward program. The wording says "Up to $7 off any Nature Made item" and the short barcode is 5 31604 00068 9. According to a quick Google search, it should autoscan for $7 but it also has the GS1 barcode and I have no idea what that's coded for.

If the redemption info says 'up to $7.00' then you should get 'up to' the item cost up to $7. If it says face value you should get $7. With Walmart you never know.

Rr are mq..with the wording redeemable only at walgreens, thus, even if your Walmart al take them, it goes against the wording on the mq. Going against the wording on a mq will not be discussed on SD.
The only exception is a few.rr that last time did not have the word "only".....usually p&g...we will have to wait and see if they left em that way next time there is a big p&g promo

This "rule" continues to make no sense to me and in my opinion is a double standard to your "rule" regarding store coupons.

If it is up to a store to police how their store coupons are used, then it is also up to the same store to decide whether they will accept a MQ with "redeemable only at" in the verbiage.

Some stores gladly accept competitor coupons, and I fail to see anything wrong with an individual store using their discretion if they want to accept a competitor/manufacturer coupon.

there has to be a line somewhere, this is where the line is drawn at SD.

I also do not understand why I cannot use my cell phone held to my ear while I drive, but I can use it on speaker phone. but it is the law/rule and I adhere to it.

FWIW, and apparently, that isn't much at SD, I agree with you, Tipper. If a store takes something, then I think it should be ok. Walmart's official policy is no, but Target's apparently isn't, but no one can speak about it....on the site where people are supposed to "share information". Doesn't make much sense. Feel free to talk about using a $5 RA q for Crest Whitestrips on Charmin all you want, though.

here's the response from walmart,

https://getsatisfaction.com/walma...th_rewards
i've never tried price matching the price after rr, but i think that the person's question wasn't 100% clear anyway, because it could have been interpreted as "pay $3.99, get a $3 rr", and that WE think that we should therefore pay only 99 cents. He should have instead mentioned that the AD states a final price of 99 cents.

I don't think that walmart intended to price match the 99 cents price anyway when they came up with that policy. And i bet that if you email corporate again, chances are that you will get a different response from one cs rep to another... But I personally don't care to price match the after rr price, until it is clear in black and white.
