eBay's updated terms and conditions appear to have dropped the $5,000 eBay gift card spending limit per rolling 180-day period.

However they have introduced a new rule as follows:
Quote :
No more than a total of $1000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per eBay purchase. Further, you may only redeem a maximum of eight Gift Cards in any single transaction (and fewer if you are redeeming Gift Cards in combination with other redemption codes, such as coupons or vouchers). Restrictions also apply to the purchase of eBay Gift Cards on ebay.com-see our Gift Card Policy for details.
New rules can be found here: http://pages.ebay.com/giftcard/te...tions.html
Old rules: https://web.archive.org/web/20150...tions.html

"The Gift Card may not be used to buy other eBay Gift Cards." is already in the old T&C (link in OP).
  • I tried this with a brand new ebay GC. Bought an ebay GC with an ebay GC. Went through with no problems. Post
  • Update 4/7: eBay is now enforcing this policy: http://slickdeals.net/f/8647166.

Frequently asked questions about eBay gift cards: http://pages.ebay.com/giftcard/faqs.html

eBay GCs now appear to arrive activated right away.

An eBay GC is now associated with an eBay account after first use.
(An eBay GC used to be associated with a PayPal account after first use.)
  • From the FAQ above: "After using your gift card, any remaining balance is attached to your eBay account."
  • From the new T&C: "3. As a security feature, upon first use the Gift Card (including funds on the Gift Card) becomes non-transferable and links to the eBay account associated with the Gift Card's first use."
  • Checking balance at https://giftcards.ebay.com/balance does NOT create the association. So "use" means actually using up funds.
    • This link to check balance works only for newer ebay gift cards. It does not appear to work on older physical eBay GCs. Store purchased newer gift cards are now either issued by FastCard or by Gift Card Mall. Logos of one of these issuing authorities will be visible on the top left on the back of the card. Older physical ebay cards do not have such a logo.
  • At https://www.paypal.com/?cmd=_prof...-available:
    • Previous used GCs (that used to be associated with a PayPal account) still show up.
    • Newly used GCs do NOT show up. Also, there is no known way to find out which GCs are associated with an eBay account.
  • My own experience on 3/18:
    • I bought a $50 eBay GC at target.com using a Target GC (from Groupon). The $50 eBay GC came activated right away when I checked at https://giftcards.ebay.com/balance.
    • Using the $50 eBay GC, I then bought a $5 eBay GC (http://www.ebay.com/itm/251863701870) for myself. The $5 eBay GC came activated right away when I checked at https://giftcards.ebay.com/balance.
    • I switched to a second eBay account (actually not mine), and was able to check both GCs ($45 and $5) at https://giftcards.ebay.com/balance.
    • In the second eBay account, during checkout, when I tried to apply:
      • The $45 GC, I got "This code is linked to a different account and can't be applied."
      • The $5 GC, it applied fine (though I did not complete the transaction).

How buying GCs is coded (some Ink cards give 5% back because Paypal Digital is coded "Utilities")
http://www.doctorofcredit.com/gif...-take-2-2/

Paypal Digital will only sell you 4 GCs (any kind) per rolling 10 days.

The limit was (supposedly) $500 per transaction previously, although I had successfully done more than that before. Anyway this tells me they know what we're doing re: g.c. rolling and they're OK with it.

I would gladly redeem $1000 GC for a single purchase. Looking at tv offers and the price can easily be $1000, which is probably more like $900 spent. As there are constant opportunities to roll plus other offers. The $1000 list price can also likely be the best price around. Let's not forget about ebay bucks. Then you also have paypal credit for interest free loans for 6/12 months on purchases over $99.

Ebay is the best gift card to have other than a Visa/MC gift card and if you're smart you'll stock up on them whenever you can.

Woohoo!!!! Awesome news. Doesn't come close to making up for the loss of CowBoom but this certainly helps counter it.

does this also mean Paypal is dropping the $5,000 eBay gift card spending limit for each 180 days?
