Since it's been asked about a dozen times already:
Effective Feb 1st 2016 Sam's Club now accepts Visa Credit Cards (not just debit).

Good question.

Last time I was at Costco someone in line asked the cashier when the switchover is and they said they keep getting told different times. It was supposed to be April 1 but they
werent sure if that changed or not.

If we're getting 5% CB I sure hope it IS April 1!

Im guessing they havent agreed on the legal process by which current amex cardholders get a new visa. People won't want a ding on credit inquiry and visa probably doesnt want to blindly accept all existing cardholders for risk reasons. Plus not even sure they can legally acquire such a list. So they are probably still figuring out how to get everyone a new card but minimize the process to do so.

You can always go to costco's website and buy a gift card (to use in store) with a visa/mc. A loophole if you will.

I just added the example merchant list to the original post.

Costco is not listed for the wholesale club category. That's not an absolutely definitive list though, and it ultimately comes down to how the merchant codes their purchases. But with Costco being such a high level retailer, it would be surprising if they weren't intentionally left off the list. Maybe it has to do with their current co-branded card situation. There may possibly be some exclusivity issues there.

All that say...maybe someone can call in and get an official answer. LOL.

Could just be because, at the time the list was made, Costco didnt accept Visa.

Apparently Costco won't be making the leap to VISA til some time in June. So they've virtually shut themselves out of the cashback category.

A Costco employee (in the membership department) told me any Visa will be accepted, not just theirs. But if memory serves, they said they won't be starting this until June, so this CB is poorly timed and of minimal value, unfortunately.

They're not on the list? That's surprising, since there aren't really that many wholesale clubs out there, and Costco is probably the most popular, especially when the theme seems to be food stores.

On another note, does it bother anyone else that these cards make you "activate" the quarterly cashback bonuses? I think they should be automatic, and they should just alert you to them each quarter.
