Please also see the Wiki of http://slickdeals.net/f/8663203?v=1 for additional info.
The following 4 headings (text before "What's the deal?") pertains specifically to this deal that offers minutes and texts (through a FreedomPop app) in addition to data.

Background
  • Calls and SMS are carried using a FreedomPop app over WiFi and data network (i.e., VoIP), instead of cellular voice network.
  • Calls and SMS use up their respective allotments (even if on WiFi), and should NOT use up data allotment (i.e., any data allotment used should be credited back).
  • You can use Google Hangouts for calls and SMS, but if not on WiFi, it will use up data allotment.

Phone
  • The FreedomPop app requires Android 4.0+ or iOS 7.0+.
  • Windows phones have no FreedomPop app support nor customer service support, but CAN get data service and use other apps.
  • Amazon Fire phones CAN also get data service. But the FreedomPop app is available through Google Play.

Getting wireless service
Plan
  • Free Basic Plan includes 200 minutes and 500 texts (but you must use the FreedomPop app), and 200MB data, every plan period.

What's the deal?
Get a 3-in-1 Global Sim from FreedomPop for $0.99. With this Global Sim, you'll get a one-month Free Trial of Unlimited Talk, Text, and 1GB data plan (normally $19.99/month). You can always switch over to the 100% Free Plan and get 200 mins, 500 texts & 200MB every month

What's is the free plan?
200 mins, 500 texts & 200MB each month

What if I go over my data plan?
If you have auto top-up enabled, in any month that you go within 100MB of your data limit, auto top-up will kick in and you'll be charged $15. Further data usage after you use up the remaining 100MB of your plan will be charged per megabyte (see below).

If you disable auto-top up by adding $5 to your account credit, "you will be suspended when you near your limit" (quote from FreedomPop rep). We're awaiting further commentary on this from the FP rep, as this suggests that once you are within 100MB of your limit, data service stops (which raises the question of why it's necessary to add $5 to your account credit).

Additional data is charged at $0.025/MB (2.5 cents per megabyte) on the free plan and $0.02/MB (2 cents per megabyte) on the 1GB or higher plans.

How is data usage calculated?
According to the terms [freedompop.com] it is rounded to the nearest 100KB, so if you turn on mobile data, check email, turn it off and only 10KB is used, it will count as 100KB.

Is this cellular?
No, everything is done over data and requires the Android or iOS FreedomPop app. Windows is not supported.

Do I need to activate it?
It will arrive to you already activated.

What networks does FreedomPop run on?
It runs on AT&T and T-Mobile's HSPA+ (3G) networks. Reported speedtests by a Slickdeals member suggest download speeds of 3.8 to 5.0 Mbps download, upload of 1.3 to 2.5 Mbps, and a ping time of 300ms. Your speeds may vary.

How do I get even more free data every month?
Add some Friends from this thread- http://slickdeals.net/f/5276432-freedompop-friends to get an additional 500MB of data for free each month.

If I signed up for a paid plan or trial, how do I downgrade it?
You can downgrade your plans/trials directly on your FreedomPop account page.

Customers who use auto-top up or pay $5 to turn it off need to keep their eyes on their account balance to avoid losing it. FreedomPop has a long standing policy of expiring plan balances after about 90 days. The FreedomPop site says balances expire after 30 days but in my experience it's more like 90 days. The good news is that you can get your expired balance back by clicking a reactivation link on your FreedomPop Billing Overview page. I don't know how that link is available after the balance expires but it seems to be at least 30 days.

Manually adding the APN for data (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=83566218&postcount=563)
If you're unable to access the internet, you may need to manually create and select the FreedomPop APN on your device.
In Android settings, go to Mobile Network, Access Point Names, add a new APN, name it "FreedomPop" (or whatever you like), and enter freedompop.foggmobile.com for the APN. All other fields are left blank. Hit the menu button then Save (do NOT press back, as you'll lose the data you entered in). Once saved, select the new APN.

After entering the APN, some users report having to manually select the correct network operator (AT&T) in order to get mobile data working. The exact process varies by device and system, but here are some generic steps for Android 4.4:
- Go into Android Settings.
- Under Wireless & Networks tap More, Mobile Networks.
- Tap Network Operators and choose a network operator.
- After the scan, select AT&T.

The countries where the Global SIM is supported (including the 200MB plan) include the US (of course) and most of Europe, including: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK. See this graphic [freedompop.com], which also has a list of countries that are "coming soon".
