I bought this last month when it was on a similar deal. Sadly, the coffee itself is just not very good. I ended up tossing over 1/2 the bag.

That's actually dirt cheap for 100% Hawaiian coffee. Regular price is about $25-$35 a pound these days. Almost impossible to find anything other than the 10% blends (crap) for under $20/lb. Too bad the poster above didn't like it...I would have been in on this. I almost ordered a bag of Royal Kona [amazon.com] earlier today. Used to bring that back from Hawaii when I vacationed there and really enjoyed it. But even with S&S it's still over $30/lb.

I put this on order last time this came up recently and realized it was ground. Whole bean, or bust! Thanks for the deal, though.

Yeah it's ridiculous. At my Marshals on clearance I got like 10 packs of this for $3 each -> http://www.amazon.com/Hawaiian-Mo...005R2GG4K/

Someone had posted that Kauai Coffee Co had been sued for its complicity in human trafficking on their farms but that post has now "been disappeared" from this thread.

I was about to purchase some of the coffee but then went to Google to search for information on that. Apparently "Global Horizons Inc., a Beverly Hills-based farm labor contractor" had brought workers from Thailand and Kauai Coffee was one of the farms that subcontracted these workers from Global Horizons. Kauai Coffee and the 7 other farms involved denied that they were in any way responsible for the mistreatment of the workers. The lawsuit was brought by the US EEOC in April 2011.

http://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/newsroom...20-11b.cfm

According to the FAQ ("What are Working Conditions Like") at Kauai Coffee, they (currently at least) treat their workers responsibly. That FAQ was added to specifically address the fallout from the lawsuit.

http://kauaicoffee.com/contact/faqs/

I hope that this post doesn't also "disappear". SD should not be just about squeezing the last penny out of the world; the conditions under which the products we buy are produced are of great importance.

Got it last time, and thought it was about the same as any of the coffees that I can get at the local Sam's Club. So I would rate is lower because of the cost.

There is no way that any roaster would dark roast a premium high end coffee. This just sounds fishy.

Bought a bag of the whole beans last year at Costco. Used in my aeropress, but sadly nothing stood out to consider buying again. Not to say it's bad coffee, but just not something I think coffee snobs like myself would recommend.

I have been to both Kauai and Big Island. I visited coffee plantations on both islands. From my opinion, Kona coffee is way much better than Kauai coffee. If you can afford 100% Kona, grab it. If not, buy 10% Kona Blend which is much more affordable. Marshalls and TJ Maxx always have 10% Kona blend for cheap price. I would not recommend Kauai coffee though, even 8 o clock (always half price at Publix) is better than this.
