Paypal customer service told me starting March 8, 2016, eBay changed the way eBay gift cards are processed and the transaction details are no longer on Palpal (or anywhere else).

For eBay gift cards linked to a Paypal account before March 8, 2016, transaction details will still be available under Paypal Redemption Codes [paypal.com]

The transaction history on the these giftcards is available at
But for cards not linked to a Paypal account by March 8, 2016, you can only check the balance on eBay and there is no way to track the transaction details.
See the attachment, 3 gift cards before March 8, 2016 will show under the Paypal transaction, but the new gift card ($46.08) will not have any detail.

I ran into a problem eBay charged my eBay giftcard for a failed purchase (server error). The order does not show up under either eBay or Paypal but the balance was taken out of my eBay gift card. eBay customer service was not at all helpful, claiming they could only see the GC balance and let me call Paypal. Every time I asked for a supervisor eBay told me there wasn't one available and would call me back. 24 hours later the amount is still missing from my eBayg GC. I never got a call from eBay so I filed a complaint to state department of justice.

imo if you have quite some eBay gift cards, unable to view transaction details can be a major problem. And there is really no way to dispute the balance on the GC.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Be sure to check http://slickdeals.net/f/8573494 (both OP and Wiki) for recent GC T&C changes.
(An eBay GC is now associated with an eBay account after first use.)

Check balance at https://giftcards.ebay.com/balance

File a BBB complaint at http://www.bbb.org/losangelessili...-ca-204015

Please file a complaint to your state attorney general/department of justice. Enough complaints might prompt an investigation into eBay/Paypal

They can't just make it simple like Amazon... what a joke. These guys are a bunch of clowns at both eBay and PayPal.

eBay has the worst customer service I have ever experienced! and with these ebay gift cards...sometimes I wonder if it's even worth it anymore. there have been times I was not able to use the gift cards and in order to use it, I had to use Canada's eBay. so dumb...

This (OP) set off my "server" alert. But, in this case, I'm actually glad because (I'm guessing) it's pretty damn relevant for a lot of SDers.

T/U and repped!

Interesting to see this info, because I've been going back and forth with PayPal for over a week about this exact issue and they just keep telling me that they should be available to view at the same link you provided (though they had me get to it in a roundabout way, it's the same page I've had bookmarked for ages). Last I heard they had escalated it to their engineers to resolve, so it's interesting that you're getting a different message from them.

This is complete and utter BS. I always relied on that page to keep track of what cards had been used, where and when they had been used, and which ones still carried a balance. Now I've got no way of knowing if I've got a card I've used since this change that I've forgotten about that may still have a balance. Huge win for them, of course, since they've potentially got my money and I've got no way to find out about it.

That's the price to pay when you sell out Americans and outsource jobs to "Steve" from "Wichita". They have no idea how things really work, just crank out crappy code based on spec paper and "support" customer by reading off of a script.

Is that mean ebay gift card no longer link to paypal account? Meaning if I used the ebay gift card with certain paypal account, then I can still use the same ebay gift card with another paypal account?

I believe currently, once you use it with one paypal account, you can't use it with another paypal account since it is linked to the first paypal account.

Ebay & Paypal's customer service is atrocious. The always blame each either and the customer suffers. I really wish the I.R.S. would audit the crap out of both of these businesses and put them out to pasture. Amazon destroys them all day long.
