Best shopping strategy for Lowe's or HD

riteshjain82 19 10 March 27, 2016 at 07:16 PM More Home Depot Deals
I'll be moving into a new home in July and will need to buy a bunch of stuff from HD or Lowe's such as -

- Washer & Dryer set (budget about $900)
- Refrigerator (budget about $1500-1700)
- Belt driven Garage door opener (budget about $350 including installation)

Total amount that I may end up spending will be about $4000-5000.

Can anyone please describe a strategy that would allow me to get the best deal for my money? I am open to buying some gift cards, going thru shopping portals, getting a mover's coupon, etc. However, if anyone can describe the method I can go about, it'll be really helpful.

Hi Ritesh
I was in the same boat, recently bought $4200 (after tax) worth of appliances, plus required accessories thru Lowes.
Here is what I did---
1) Bought 10% off Lowes mover's coupon from Ebay for $3.(I did not have one). Purchase the one that seller can email you.
2) Price matched washer dryer from Frys promo emails. ($750 instead of $850 each)
3) Price matched refrigerator from Home Depot ($2600 instead of $3000)
4) Paid by credit card, it was $4200 after 10% off and tax
5) Bought $4200 worth of Lowes gift cards at 12% off from Raise.com
6) Waited for the gift cards to arrive, takes any where from 3-14 business days.
7) Once Lowes confirmed that my appliances had arrived in their store, went back and they refunded my credit card for $4200, and then charged $4200 on the gift cards. (don't wait until delivery)

So effectively around 22% off before tax.
Washer dryer at $590 instead of $850
Refrigerator at $2060 instead of $3000

Price match is based on luck, luck being that some other store should have a deal on the same item.

Lastly, if you are not in a hurry, you can buy Raise.com gift cards ahead of time, and avoid the hassle of credit card refund and re-billing on gift card. Unless there is a good price match deal that will likely expire by the time the gift cards arrive.
We wanted to take advantage of the price match deals, so credit card it was, and we were assured that they will easily do a 'change of payment' from credit card to gift card later. Which they did very easily.

Hope this helps!

First thing to do is narrow down which fridge/washer/dryer and garage opener you want.
Then watch the price...I bought our fridge when I saw it on sale online. Plus used discounted giftcards and a 10% lowes coupon.

Also check for rebates from companies and your energy supplier. Peco sent us a gift card for upgrading to a energy efficient fridge. Whirpool had a rebate on washer and dryer last time we bought also.

Do you already have a garage door opener installed? They are not too difficult to install(easier if you already have the mounting brackets in place).

if you put in a change of address at the post office they will send you coupons. some post offices have physical packets available you can just pick up, but my local ones don't (i had to do it online but then received physical coupons in the mail once the effective date arrived).

i received coupons for lowes, home depot, target, best buy, pottery barn, wayfair and others i can't recall.
